B7 RS4 Insurance including mods required for tomorrow
Re: B7 RS4 Insurance including mods required for tomorrow
Admiral were a bit of a nightmare for the mods - no they didn't know what a CAF was! Basically if it wasn't one of the 'standard' mods on their drop down list, they were stuffed. The first conversation I had was with the Indian call centre, where they didn't even know what a manifold was, let alone one which was ported and deflapped.
In the end, they worked the premium out based on the total increase in power over stock (which was only 6%) and made a note of all the mods.

For reference Admiral may not cover remaps etc anymore. I too am on multicar and when I sold the RS4 which was remapped and covered by them and went ot the RS3 I asked in advance whethr they covered maps, intercoolers etc and the answer in October was yes. I went to them the week before last and asked about insuring an FMIC and remap and they said no to both. Exhaust yes, air filter yes, some suspension mods no. Didn't know what an ARB was.
Supposedly the 'no' to remaps was for all cars now, even lady P_G's A2!

As my car is 18ps below standard even with the mods, does that mean they give me a discount? Or can I mod for free until my power is 420ps?Dave_M wrote: In the end, they worked the premium out based on the total increase in power over stock (which was only 6%).

So are you saying Dom that you could order the car without tinted windows ?Dom81 wrote:You're leaving a gap there Victor. You could buy the car without tinted windows, but equally could have them as an option. Agree that aftermarket mods have to be declared, but my understanding has always been that factory fitted options were covered as standardvictor2vt wrote:If you couldn't buy the car from the dealership without "Tinted windows, fitted as standard" then you don't need to declare them, only aftermarket tinting that you do yourself to make the windows darker.
I always thought they would have been standard on a car like ours from the factory ?

Re: B7 RS4 Insurance including mods required for tomorrow
All cars came with "Heat insulating tinted glass" but that's practically invisible. There was then a "Privacy glass. Dark-tinted rear windows, rear door windows and rear side windows" option, which I'd say doesn't need to be declared if ordered from new...

It is a bit of a tricky one I reckon. I was pricing up insurance from Elephant and when you got to the bit about modifications it said that this means anything that was different from the standard specification, even optional extras from factory. It even mentions sports suspension as an optional extra and I took that to mean the sport suspension + option on the B7. Good thing is that even when I ticked the suspension, tints and exhaust, it only added £15 to the policy.

I used to be with Equity Redstar through Adrian Flux - EDquity Redstar are fine - they are a Lloyds on London syndicate so security isnt an issue.
Been with Admiral now for two year - all mods decalred, Milly, Remap, Airfilter (renewed in February).#
Most carriers reduce the premium if you add your wife as second driver - the model shows policies with both spouses on are less likely to have an claim.
The big difference on mods insurance is whether they cover the mods but dont actually pay to replace the mods - IE just pay to repair the car to standard, or if they cover the replacement of the mods as well.
Your probabley find Equity Redstar cover the replacement of the mods (mine did when i was with them)

Equity are a solid underwriter, I've been with them previously for both the 205 and S4, not a highstreet name as you will always have to go through a broker to be underwritten by them
(I work with insurance everyday - yawn I know - but it does mean I know which temptingly cheap ones to avoid as mentioned above!)
