Very disapointed

Post by pmj » Tue Apr 30, 2013 3:20 pm

Bough a sprint blue S4 last weekend, it was being used at the time by the dealer as a run around, anyway, did the deal and picked the car up from them, got it home, found it had had some repair done on the front wing, dealer knew about it but never said anything until I approached him about it, he agreed to "sort something out", so dealing with that, however, today I took it to an Audi specialist and got the shock of my life, he has basically said that the car is dangerous due to the state of the brakes and the front suspension needs a total over haul to the tune of 3K, not only that but the car has started smoking on start up, valve stem oil seals I suspect, called Audi to confirm and they are quoting £3000 to replace them, I may as well just burn the car and be done with it, very disappointed in the whole affair.... not sure where I can go from here...

Where about do you stay? If near any good members it might be worth them having a look. If near me I would certainly be happy for a side by side comparison to see what's wrong.

Bought it from a non Audi dealer in Berkshire, near Reading is where I am located.. really gutted , but the suspension / brakes issue and the oil smoke on start up I reckon the bill for sorting this car is going to be nearly £7k, so I am resigning myself to handing the car back...gutted really as it is such a nice car to drive.. just don't want the hassle of trying to get the dealer to sort it out.the Audi specialist said the car is dangerous specifically the brakes on it.

Trying to hand it back but the dealer is wanting his mechanic to check the faults, legal advice say try to resolve before handing back, so going down this road of letting his guy check it and see what he is prepared to do,but it will either be short cuts or they will argue the toss and it will get nasty,,, the car is so nice, its taken a long while to find a sprint blue on as well...

When did you take delivery? Know your rights, it sounds like a lemon.

Picked it up on the 20th. I hope I know my rights. I would love for the dealer to sort it out but I can't see them spending that sort of money for a 12k car.

The specialist is having you on. The front suspension doesn't cost £3k to overhaul even if you replace every part in it. Front brakes can be changed for £200 using parts from ECP.

I had my S4 checked over by a specialist just after buying it and they came up with £6k of remedial work on a car that had recently passed an MOT.

It's probably absolutely fine. Get a second opinion, including the smoke on startup.

The smoke on start up could just be as simple as it has been over filled with oil if it has had a service recently.
Current car: 2007 BMW 530d touring.
Previous car: 2005 S4 B7.

I hope that is the case. Overfill is easy to deal with. But it does not smoke all the time only sometimes on start up.

No it's not the one from Slough. Is came from near Reading.

I know the parts quoted are over prices as I have seen full all round replacement discs for 200 quid. But I am struggling to find the suspension bushes at all. So any pointers would be great. Jus want to get it sorted and keep the car if at all possible.

Bushes are available from the dealer, or complete arms from Eurocarparts.
