Have to agree about lack of real mechs. Called in to the local Audi garage to speak with the service manager about my wife's Q7. It was throwing an error on the turbo charger. Anyway he said leave it with me. Following day he call to say he checked the computer and it was not possible to change just the actuator, he recommended that before changing out the complete turbo (€1800+vat) the best thing would be to leave the jeep in they would check the vacuum system and the waste gate actuator. The turbo has an electric actuator controlling the vanes, I don't think there is even a waste gate installed.

No Waste gate on TDi's, your right. don't let them mess with the vacume hoses too much as if they get plugged back into the wrong place it would even boost.

I think you've done well for £1500 Chris, a lot of good will gone into that price I hope they apply that discounted labour rate across the complete job, that would be a result.

Wouldn't like to think about how much your total bill is coming in at though. Mine had new disks, pads and tyres fitted when I bought it to get it upto scratch for sale. The dealer was telling me that it was £4K's worth of work but I have no idea if that's anywhere near the truth and I suspect there was a deal of exaggeration involved. I was just glad that I didn't have to do that myself though in one go!

Front discs and pads are over a grand!!!

Any way I'm holidaying I'm my back garden this year now!!! Lol!!


Update....

Parts are on "back order"...not due in from Germany till wednesday(Tomoz)...at this rate it's back end of next week before my baby is back!!

Why have you paid £600 for the plugs to be changed? i know parts are £200 of that, why they charging 2 hours labour, is that not the price for the change while the engine is in the car? the engine is on a bench, it would take no longer than 30 mins to change the 10 plugs with the access they have to it, how can they justify that.

That's a fair point regarding the labour on the plug change due to the engine being out. If I remember rightly when I had mine done it was a quoted 3.5 hr job due to the difficulty of access but if the engine is on the bench I guess even Audi can't say this should be more than one hour?
