Just wondering if its something more common on higher mileage or slight older cars, or luck of the draw?

my warranty runs out at the end of May and i dont fancy getting stuck into £1,000s for labour bills. Wonder if its worth getting the garage to do a quick check.
Pay £1000 now for warranty. At least then your covered for this sort of trouble and it won't cost anymore.

Warranty is a no brainer with this car. I'll be pumping cash into Mondial as long as they take it and I have the car.

there is fresh oil leaking from the undertray and its everywhere under it so its going in on Friday for bearings so I will get them to look at it as it wasn't that bad in sept when I cleaned it up, it was also serviced in Jan by Audi so not sure they picked up on it.

Trups

Good luck with it Trups!!

Sounds like the same as me matey?

Ask them about the oil pump "o" ring?...that's what's leaking on mine?

If so it's engine out job matey...you'll be cool if you have warranty though.

Just expect to loose car for at least a fortnight.

And get them to check timing chain gasket and rocker cover gaskets too?

Audi have just rang me and guess what?...parts are on back order from Germany!!!

Not due in till next Wednesday...il be without car for nearly a month at this rate?

 That doesn't sound good guys just getting my self worried reading this. Any way I can check with out getting car on ramp looking underneath etc any signs ?. How can the technicians miss this when doing oil change clearly they should have noticed it. In some of your cases when you've had service done, and engine out jobby send shivers down my spine hahaha. Just one of them things would never touch wood want the engine out just something about it but I guess you've got no choice. Anyways as long as you get it sorted but mine had a service about 3 months ago, but you never know I suggest everybody should check better be safe than sorry. :?

Easiest way to check is to take the plastic under engine guard old.
This where the oil drips on and can be seen(can't be seen any other way as far as I'm aware?)

The amount I was loosing wasn't really noticeable I put it down to useage?...but of course the longer you leave it the more the risk of total oil loss or further damage I suspose?

If I hadn't gone in for an oil change I would have been unaware until leak had got that bad I would not have missed it.

M1R.

Yes im not sure how they don't notice either, they didn't even notice the bearings been knackered, I didn't either but its not my job to as im no techy.

the only explanation is this (no disrespect to any proper techs) my mate works for BMW and he is a master tech but I would never let him touch my car, he is what you call a modern computer tech, they plug into a computer, diagnose the "problem" and then work off a guide BMW send to replace the "problem". no skin off his back, no thinking or working the issue out by your self, if there was no computer he would be stomped. as a wheel bearing or oil change don't come up in a VCDS scan I think the audi tech who does the service wont even check or know its there.

I know all cars these days are run by computers these days but what happened to the old way of working and using your brain to work out a fault.

The guy who is working on my car looks in his fifties?...so maybe a little more switched on and vigilant?

One certainly hopes?

But as Trups has said that's exactly how it's done these days....computers only tell you so much then you use the senses nature gave us!!...and some common sense!!

However this seems a method that doesn't get used these days.

Shame.

Have to agree about lack of real mechs. Called in to the local Audi garage to speak with the service manager about my wife's Q7. It was throwing an error on the turbo charger. Anyway he said leave it with me. Following day he call to say he checked the computer and it was not possible to change just the actuator, he recommended that before changing out the complete turbo (€1800+vat) the best thing would be to leave the jeep in they would check the vacuum system and the waste gate actuator. The turbo has an electric actuator controlling the vanes, I don't think there is even a waste gate installed. :bash:

Don't know if it makes you feel any better but it looks like the repair costs are going to be less than the renewal on my warranty from mondial at £2500 (I politely declined).

And mines just an S6!

For the lot I'm looking at circa £1500...this included some good will.

This is for the initial leak repaired including engine in/out etc etc

Wheel bearings are free again under new parts warranty.

Also I have service and front discs pads to pay for.

And gearbox oil change.

Il let you work out how much that lot is costing me!!!
