New member!

Post by ginch » Wed Apr 17, 2013 1:03 am

Hi there, I just joined today. I live in Calgary, Alberta and have been a member on Audizine for some time. I bought my RS4 sedan (saloon) about 6 months ago and love it to bits.

Car was 100% stock when I purchased it. within the past 2 weeks I've installed KW V3 coilovers, Milltek non resonated exhaust and a euro RS4 steering wheel. My question is about the steering wheel.

I know when I installed it that I would lose the functionality of some of the buttons but the one I kind of miss the most is the voice control for dialling the phone numbers. Is that gone forever or is there another button somewhere I can press that allows me to use that feature?

Here are a few pics.....

Thanks in advance!

Hi Derek - Welcome along!

1) FON

AFAIK Here in Europe those cars with the FBSW did not have SDS high (speech dialogue system) available. Although your motor has the capability there is no way to switch it on with the FBSW - you may be able provide something bespoke though.

One possible solution is to use a multi function flat bottom steering wheel
from a TTRS instead but obviously u would loose the euro SW :-(

You can put another button on the dash where the Sport button would have been if you had the mfsw - on the row with the hazard light switch. Mine originally had the multifunction wheel (mfsw) but now has the flat-bottom (fbsw) but still had the sport button in place but de-activated. Just rig you phone into this button - you can get loads of different buttons on line - find one with a picture of a phone on it.

There has been a thread on here about aftermarket buttons.

Has anyone rigged the buttons on the fbsw to control other things?

That'd be ideal. For example sport button on wheel is not necessary. Having it beside hazards button is ideal since you likely press it once and that's it.

Having the trip computer Co trolled by the wheel is also useless. There's a stalk two inches away for that. If you're using it for the lap timer, get some track buddy software and a camera and it will be far more interesting and effective.

Radio/phone volume for the + and - buttons, voice dialing and 'mode' for the others?

There is if. You fit the aftermarket phone cradle.

I just read this elsewhere [I removed my dash cradle as I didn't like it and can't remember if it had a button on it similar to the pic above]

"The voice controlled system that utilizes the button on the bottom of the cradle is very good, you simply press the button say a few words and it dials it for you"

Not when the FBSW is factory fitted - then the stalk doesn't have the trip computer controls as Audi fit the non-trip computer version of the stalk.

The truth is that the buttons on the FBSW are really a bit of a gimmick, I agree that an FBSW with MFSW buttons would have been a better choice by Audi.
