The inner pads get hotter than the outer ones. It's one of the reasons I removed my splash shield. The other reason (and if I'm honest the bigger reason) being that I was lazy when I put my C6 brakes on.

I was 'this' close to unbolting the calipers and ripping the guards off/cleaning out the inner disc sides but with rain threatening and it getting towards the end of the day (exercise time......), I got lazy. In case I somehow decide to do it this weekend, what is the torque value for the caliper bolts please darling?

Torque value is "lots". I just tighten them up with a long bar as much as I dare. I'll see if I can find the "proper" girly value for you though.

You'll have to take the disks off to remove the splash shield.

LOL at torgues, Nick.

I've just booked my car in to have the old genuine Audi OEM pads put it at 9:30 tomorrow, I cannot be bothered to do it myself. I'm getting myself some Carbotech pads for my new brakes that Ian is going to sort out, but they are made to order so could take a little while.

Bringing this thread back from the dead but Ian at Carbotech has really, really kindly refurbed my pads and they look as good as new (can't believe they are the same pads tbh) so I will be selling them shortly:

From new they were all 16.5mm and I hand on heart battered these pads for the 2-3000 miles perhaps that I put on them so they have stood up really well. Again, my advice is to remove the horribly restrictive disc guards so that air can actually get to the inner sides of the front discs and I reckon that most of the downsides that I suffered will be eliminated. They may have also been partly eliminated by a non-idiot specialist fitting them (nobody on here).

If I hadn't gone for the newer 6-pot calipers and custom disks now I would have actually stuck these on again to try them without the guards as the performance is still a million times better when pushing it imo.
