Thanks all, @ Sutts that is an impressive gain, and was very low power to begin, with, I bet the difference in driving was like night and day?

The reason I ask mine is in at the moment getting it done,
I only got 360 odd bhp and 310 lb/ft after a stage 2 last time with full exhaust+2x high flow cats,, so I am hoping this with the vacuum checks should see me at least over standard power,
Looking forward to driving it, when its back!

There was definitely a big butt-dyno (heh) improvement after the AmD work, difficult to tell how much was purely down to the de-coke, as they fixed the vacuum problem and MAF counting backwards at the same time. However, I'm sure you don't go from the before to after pics below without some improvements!

I think the graph I posted also shows the value in gutting precats, along with a good custom map and exhaust - 50 bhp in my case it would appear. :beerchug:

What's a "Stage2"?

I briefly read MRC's site a while back and they have that described as some head work and a custom map iirc? Wouldn't head work automatically include scraping carbon away...?

IIRC mine started at 396bhp at 80k miles, decoke took it to 412/413 bhp and then IM port / polish took it to 421bhp. Area under the power curve was larger too so most who do have it done notice better mid range pull, shgarper throttle response.

For £500-700 worth having done for nothing else other than maintenance.

Sorry i should have been clearer on mine.

When it went in to AMD it had already had the AMD map, K&N Filter and Milteck fitted.

So the changes were purely from the decoke and the vac leak fix.

Will have a look tonight to see if the dyno results have the before and after decoke results before the vac leak fix.

So you can't say for sure how much of the gain was due to the de-coke and how much due to the vac leak fix then?

I have had no head work, when I took it first to Amd I had a eml light on, and the car kept going into limp mode,
They plugged it in, it had a unknown map on there already ,
The reason it was going into limp mode etc, was the fact that I have the high flow cats, and apparently needs to be mapped after this mod, which is was not, so the car was over -fueling and going into limp mode,

I presume the map is a stage 2 maybe not?

From the MRC website:
Remapping:
Stage 1
Designed for all standard cars and includes full throttle in all gears
Includes engine health check and dyno time

Stage 2
A Stage 2 Map is custom to your car and performed on the dyno. Being normally aspirated every change to your car needs verified and proven on the dyno.
Includes: Full throttle in all gears. VVT modifications. Linear throttle option in non sport mode. Secondary air injection disabled for running cold air feeds, no precats, racecats or no cats. Quiet mode start mode.
Includes engine health check and dyno time

Stage 3
For all turbo or supercharged B7 RS4s This sincludes 4 hour dyno time. If the car is on the dyno longer than this we charge additional time per hour at £88+vat/hour

Manifiolds:
Stage 1 Manifold
Flaps removed from manifold, ported runners, reprofiled and ported trumpets

Stage 2 Manifold
Flaps removed from manifold, ported runners, ported trumpets, Flap shaft is locked and more porting with step removed in runners.
* This cannot run on a stock map and has to be remapped to stage2

There is no connection between stage 1 and 2 of the remap and the manifilds other than if you have a stage 2 manifold you will need a custom remap i.e. stage 2.

Just looked up the dyno results, already had the amd map, k&n air filter and Milly fitted 6 months beforehand

Start:

388 bhp and 318.1 lb/ft torque at 3903 rpm

After decoke:

406 bhp and 324.4 lb/ft torque at 3748 rpm

After decoke and vac fix:

431 bhp and 328 lb/ft torque at 5873 rpm

So the decoke along gave me 18 bhp gain.

And the vac fix gave you 25bhp gain, so the vacuum problem lost you more power than the coking.

Which gives the better bhp gain per £?

£500 seems a pretty good price from AMD based on those photos from sutts, but I think Dave is prob right that fixing things like vac leaks first makes sense since it'll likely give better bang for buck.

I'm losing a lot of power somewhere atm (345 HP), but I want to find out where my other losses are first before de-coking.

I started a thread here on dragstrip comparison before and after carbon in case you care about acceleration rather than pretty graphs. Wasn't dramatic to be honest. I've done a few before and after pulls with cleaned cars and they pull harder than my un cleaned car up above 7000 to be sure. I just think k it's not going to truly effect your real world results all that dramatically... Perhaps more how it feels.

Still, worth it for safety

Price per BHP the Vac leak was cheaper.

Vac leak cost £135 to fix (all in) - which was covered under the warranty i took out (only bloody thing that has been covered though).

Although the actual BHP and Torque numbers dont relate back to how the car drives following the work, car pulls a lot harder now, cold start is less stuttery, the car just drives so much better.

However how much of this is due to the decoke or vac fix i will never know.
