Thanks Gav.

You might be right about the suspension before mirrors. I always intended on keeping the mirrors in alu even after everything else was blacked out, but I saw these mirrors and they looked really nice. I'd normally say they are OTT but I was swayed. However, the effort involved might be too much for me right now (for something that could easily look wrong anyway).

I wasn't too sure on the wheels at first but I think it may have been cos the photos were taken as the car came off the jack so was sitting a little higher than normal. once it settled back down it looked better. And i've been playing with the sopacers too (now running with none).

My new starter button arrived yesterday. I've stripped it down and ready to send a specialist to make me a metal version. Not decided on finish yet, a piece of Alu seems the obvious choice and will look pretty standard but just feel that little bit nicer. I'm thinking what I could do to make it any different eg have it body coloured etc but not sure yet. I don't really know how you anodise a piece of metal or what type of metal it needs to be etc but that is something I'll look into.

Of course it will only need to be a simplified version, I don't need all the little tabs and cut outs, it'll simply be glued to the the plastic that it sits in.

Looks like you are following in Young Ben's thread footsteps buddy by putting together one of your own which is good to see.

Have you actually got an end point in mind or is it just going to be a constant evolution of the car?

Hopefully you will be able to attend the RS4 meet this year. Something I am looking forward to myself and we can the changes up close :D

I know there are things I want to do still but it is constantly evolving. I'm sure i will get to a point and think if I do any more it might be OTT, but we'll see, there are always little things that can be done that people won't even notice by just looking, like the start button.

I'm always on holiday when the national meet is planned. This year I'm away from 6th July to 20th July. The weekends before we go and after we get back are always busy too so unless it falls outside of this time then I won't be able to go.

Thanks, they look good, and it has answered my question of what metals you normally anodise; Alu.
Still trying to figure out what will look best, bevelled edge, knurled edging strip etc. I'll be looking at other cars with start button for inspiration and idea. Anyone seen any really nice starter buttons from any Astons, Paganis, Ferraris etc. Some of these must have some real fancy metal buttons.

If you get it made from aluminium, how about laser etching the "RS" logo into it?

I retract the above suggestion, please ignore, it would be tackier than the floor in a student bar.

The Aston ones are "glass". Light up white with ignition and red when the clutch is full depressed and have the start script written under the "glass" .

They're larger than Audi ones. On later cars you push a transponder into the button to start it (they call it an ECU - emotional control unit - as they evidently had a summer intern who was away with the feckin fairies).

Personally I think the std Audi one is very nicely done. Replacing it with an ali' one will just add weight (!) for zero gain...

If I were forced to do anything with it, it might be to put the RS4 script in it so it lit up. But not really sure why you'd bother..

I was just messing with photoshop and thought I'd see what they look like. Photos I've seen look poor but they've painted them all one colour which I don't think works. Trouble is, once you paint these wheels there isn't going back if you don't like it.
