Might even be able to help police catch them and convict them.
Thanks all. Any idea if the thread is still here - can't seem to locate. Was thinking about "Smile, you're on camera" on a laminated sheet on the driver's seat :-)

I thought Roadhawk was the only one that the police would consider looking at evidence from.
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)

Nonsense. A camera is a camera.

Blackvue is even better - in parking mode you can set it to monitor the scene. It'll auto record when something is detected moving in shot.
No vibration or any active sensors required. Simply fit it to you windscreen and rotate it so it's pointing in the car and just leave it.
If the interior light goes on or anything else it'll pick it up no bother. I've tested it when taking car in for a service and it works really well.
No idea on the power drain but wouldn't have though it would be that much.

I would also make sure both keys are safely tucked away - I don't have this problem with the rs4 but on the mini it's easy to catch a button when it's in a pocket and unlock the car.

these cars are hard to break into
they use a rolling code so capturing one won't work next time

as others have said that is why they want to keys, otherwise they break the glass and set the alarm off

Ads, its was the Blackvue I was talking about; just thought I read it had movement sensors but I probably got it wrong.

Thanks everybody. Forum to the rescue. Time to get recording.

A rolling code? Does this mean that the dealer's "re-coding" was, essentially, a complete waste of time and money?

Does it mean that somebody has to be standing in range with some kind of receiver and they'll get a one-time chance based on what they capture?

I'll delve into that camera thread...

rolling code means that the unlock/lock code is different everytime
so if it's captured once, it's useless, becasue next time it's different
even if someone gets it, next time it won't work...1 shot deal

the dealer recoded the keys to match the car and it's controller

the lock system on the car is pretty sophisticed and has it's own controller on the network
