SD card and "corrupted data"
SD card and "corrupted data"
I swapped my RNSE for a 2012 version before christmas and bought a 32Gb SDHC card to store all my music on - which works fine. However, at the weekend I loaded a few albums onto a different SD card - an older 4Gb SD card. This plays the tracks fine on my laptop, but when I plug it into the RNSE I get a "data corrupted" message and it won't play.
Any idea what's going on?
Thanks
Dave

Did you format the card before you used it?

Re: SD card and "corrupted data"
Yes I did reformat it first as it had got corrupted previously (was only showing a capacity of about 300Mb). After reformatting it appeared fine in the laptop and was back to showing a 4Gb capacity.

Re: SD card and "corrupted data"
Reformat and try again is the simple option
Deleting files on the card can also confuse the RNSe, because the data is still on the card even though you can't see it - so if you've deleted anything from the card while it's plugged into your laptop, empty the recycle bin on the laptop - that clears the "dead" data off the card too. If you've deleted / moved files on the laptop in your music folders, again the deleted data can still be lurking, and make its way onto the card if you copy those folders onto it, but these will go if you empty the recycle bin
You can try looking for hidden files on the card - again, these will definitely confuse the RNSe
I usually get a niggle like this every time I add or remove music from my 32gb cards so you're not alone

Also check the file names and folder names as there is a limit of 64 characters on the path name.

Re: SD card and "corrupted data"
OK - thanks, some ideas to work with.
I'm using a PC running Windows 7. I don't think the issue can be with file / folder names as I added the same folders onto the 32 Gb card last night and the card read fine and the added files played ok this morning.
I'll try reformatting the 4Gb card and see if that works.

Make sure you format it FAT32 and not NTFS.Dave_M wrote:I'll try reformatting the 4Gb card and see if that works.

Re: SD card and "corrupted data"
Also... where did you purchase the card?
There are some cheap 'n' nasty cards on places like ebay. They're frigged to look bigger than they really are.

Dave when you say you swapped your RNSE for a 2012 version, do you mean from another Audi or an after-market unit?? I have posted this a while ago and is pertinent to my post too...Dave_M wrote:I swapped my RNSE for a 2012 version before christmas and bought a 32Gb SDHC card to store all my music on - which works fine. Re: SD card and "corrupted data"
Swapped for one from a 2012 Audi A3.
Double checked the offending 4Gb card last night. It's definitely formatted as fat32, but it's a non-branded card which I think I bought through ebay. The weird thing is it used to work in the original 2007 RNSE unit, and it still works fine in my camera, and the music I've transferred onto it will play fine via the laptop.
Oh well....

Re: SD card and "corrupted data"
I didn't say 2012 I said 2010+, and yes it's a genuine Audi RNS-E, just the newer version (principally so I could fit the AMI) - see my sig.Audiyoudo wrote:Dave when you say you swapped your RNSE for a 2012 version, do you mean from another Audi or an after-market unit??
I'll say what I always say when people talk about MMI in a B6 or B7 - we don't have MMI. Yes I know it says MMI on startup (which is the decision of a demented dumb ass Audi marketing person) but it's not MMI, has nothing in common with MMI and doesn't use MMI map discs - it's an RNS-E.Audiyoudo wrote: I have posted this a while ago and is pertinent to my post too...
