Gtechniq

Post by ecav » Fri Jan 25, 2013 5:06 pm

Thinking of having it applied to my car as I have read good reviews about the product offering paint protection that last longer and is stronger than carnuba wax without any of the issues adhesives may have. Anyone used it or heard of it? Comments welcomed especially any criticism / disadvantages I should be aware of. Thank you!

Alway very sceptical about these polishes that clame to protect the paint more that any othe good wax system my dealer is pushing Supergaurd which i won't be taking i find that a regular valet from good detailer is about the best you can get other than using the clear film protectors

I'll probably be going the G-Techniq route in the spring. It is a crystalline sealant / polish system which is very durable and will protect against UV and bug / tree sap plus general road film, but not against stonechips. I use C5 on my alloys at present and it is very good and very durable. Only issue is if I do go this way I'll have a shed full of products and a DA polisher I won't need anymore

Thanks for the replies. Applied it yesterday - special thanks to Paul from shineondetail for excellent work - took about 5 hours in total and then let it sit overnight. Some pics below

Thanks! i am happy with the colour - was quite nervous when I ordered it as I hadn't seen it in real life. For those considering prism the above are quite accurate pics of what it looks like in real life.

Sorry mate but that looks like silver to me, I'm sure the difference is more noticeable in the flesh but I don't quite get it. I'm interested in the Gtechniq product though, I've been using Nanolex and while it's brilliant on the wheels, the flies etc don't exactly wipe off the bodywork and there is residual staining (it's basalt black). Do you know which product the detailer used and if it's not too cheeky what you were charged?

It is silver, that's why it's called prism silver :-) but it is a darker silver and flaky so it reflects colour well highlighting the curves and changing depending on light conditions. A bit similar to how Suzuka is different than Ibis - one can argue they are both white but under different lighting they are quite different and Suzuka is a rarer, rs special colour. Again it is a personal choice, just wanted to post pics as when I was ordering I couldn't find any.

He used c1 which I think is their flagship product; his prices are on his website - keep in mind it was five-six hours of work with all of the producsts his (including water!) and came out to my place. I think the application is quite tedious and if you are not familiar with it it's beneficial to have a professional do it and not experiment on your car. Cant tell you yet how it performs with sap and bugs but other users have given very good reviews.

Ha! I know it's silver, I just can't see the difference from standard in your pics, but I'm sure based on comments I've read that it looks good, if I were ordering an RS4 it would probably be prism. I don't mind a bit of detailing, but it does get tedious and I'm certain a pro gets a better finish, take it he used purified water? I draw the line at that.

I got my (albeit non RS!) treated with gtechniq Exo as soon as I picked it up from the dealer (asked dealer not to wash car either).
Pic below hopefully..

Had it on 6months - only wash with mild shampoo - comes up amazingly and bugs just fall off without scrubbing!

Should add have become quite a convert to the gtechniq range. Applied the G5(iirc) wheel protector to winter wheels too before I put them on. Dirt just drops off them too - plus offers very good protection from elements

Thanks for the response ecav, I will give it a go next time around. While I've been impressed with Nanolex on the wheels, the bodywork has not been quite so well protected, although it could be my application technique more than the product!
