Sputter on start up?

Post by Keaney » Fri Jan 25, 2013 10:08 am

The last few times I've started the car up from cold it's started fine but seems to sputter a little before putting the revs into the normal high idle.

Vagcom has not revealed anything so I'm just wondering if I should give a little gas on cold mornings or if there's something I should be checking?

Any help appreciated

Check engine coolant temperature sensor or ignition coils.

Could be a leaky injector. Or a dodgy sensor.

Before starting from cold, check your recorded trim values, and all the values from the temp sensors. Air and coolant.

Might be an air leak. Or heavy drain on the alternator. Try starting with the air con off and headlights, etc off. See if that makes a difference.

/Check your MAF readings when it's spluttering, too. THen at normal idle.

Nothing to do with your coolant level. Temperature is what we're interested in. Specifically whether the values are coherent or wonky. Go to advanced measuring blocks and find it in there. I'm not going to explain how to use vagcom, you're gonna have to find someone more patient than me, or use google.

Coolant,Temperature (G62)
Mass Air Flow,(G70) Bank 1
Mass Air Flow,(G246) Bank 2
Engine Speed,(G28)
Intake Air,Temperature (G42)
Throttle Valve Angle

That should do for starters. Log in turbo mode if you can.
