ALL direct injection engines will suffer from carbon build up to a certain extent because the fuel does not wash over the back of the inlet valves or port. (it is the fuel that keeps the carbon build up down)

The RS4 V8 just appears to suffer the most.
nope, rs4 v8 owners just Bitch the most

3.2 fsi is the worst
2.0t not far behind us

I think RS4V8 owners have a legitimate grievance. See Dougs 2nd post here: http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=101380

There is something about the design that makes it especially problematic

It'll be the shape of the intake trumpets - The R8 has enough space above the engine for the airbox to be much higher and the trumpets completely straight into the cylinder.
With the RS4, the bonnet obviously gets in the way so the only method of retaining the desired trumpet length (as this has a direct implication to where the engine develops peak torque - longer trumpet length moves the torque band lower) is to make them bent. They almost turn through 180 degrees and enter the airbox from above.
I suspect this has an effect on the EGR airflow.

Sure but comparing to other audis, I believe the 3.2 cars were the worst.

Also we rs4 owners are mental power hungry zealots who constantly pour over dyno numbers, logs, timeslips, pbox data. If one hp goes missing they send out a search party . If 4% goes missing they freak out. If the typical 3.2 owner lost 4% of their power would they really notice 10hp?

Is it a major concern if the car is new and under a full warranty..?

I'm sure in a few years when mileage goes up on used cars, it might cause concern but if its a FSH with a warranty you should be covered.

Mmm, loving the B8 the more I see images of them - just a pity it doesnt have a charger bolted onto it..

Car have the latest M3 in their mag, straight six twin turbo 450PS, option of a manual too. It'll destroy the B8 RS 4. Yummy. That's what I'd choose, and when it snows. I'll be tucked up in bed at home whilst all you lot take on the extra work load. ;)

Well done, I don't usually pay attention to Scoob's, but I've always thought the Revoulition one looked nice, would love a ride in it one day to see what all the fuss is about Scoobies, I'm sure it's justified.

I was speaking to one of the directors on the Terracean stand at the Performance Car show back in Jan. He says they have a new system coming out in June to clean the inlet Valve carbon build up. This chap knew exactly the problem with the RS4 and said that they are working hard on the european adapters necessary to introduce the new system. My previous RS4 was cleaned by MRC and there are significant gains to be had, the expense is one thing the other is the hassle travelling, dropping, leaving and picking up your car. I've had the current Terraclean done which cleans other carbon build up in the engine. It works as during the process the revs are set to 1800RPM and rise as the engine cleans, then reset to 1800RPM cleans & rises, repeat etc. My RS4 definitely felt stronger, cost £96 (with 10% received from said chap), I waited only 1 hour and drove off happy. So I'm going to wait until June for Terracleans new process, which I'm sure will be cheaper and quicker.
RS4 B7, Mugello Blue, K&W V3 & HR ARBs, set up by Centre Gravity, Milltek Valved Non Res & cat bypass pipes, BMC air filter, braided hoses, DOT 5.1, Terraclean, MRC Full Carbon Clean, MRC remap 448PS 477NM, 20" S7 alloys with 4mm spacers & Hawke spigots 66.6 > 57.1, AP Racing front discs. Sold Sept 2019. Now rocking an F80 M3

That is interesting and the fact that the new version is designed to combat the issues a DI has Terraclean have basically admitted that the current system does not work fully on a DI engine, which explains why nobody has come forward with before and after photo’s.

I take it they were talking about this equipment? - http://www.terraclean.net/product.php?id=2

I wish they would publish some before and after pictures/video to back up the claims as until they do I will remain sceptical.
