Oil Leak from Timing Chain Cover - Engine Out

Post by RS4_Chris » Tue Jan 22, 2013 1:27 pm

Alright folks,

Car was in for a service on the 8th of jan and i was advised that it would need to go back in for an investigation into an oil leak from the timing chain cover, cant be leaking much as there is no oil on my drive and it doesnt seem to be using much more oil than usual. The car is only on 39k miles at the moment.

Anyway, she was booked back in for a 2 day appointment on monday (21st) and now i'm told it needs the whole engine out to investigate the leak and resolve so its now booked back in for the 11th of feb.

Any one had a similar leak in the past? Sounding very expensive already but thankfully she is still under warranty.

Cheers

might be worth checking the warranty before you end up with a big invoice, oil leaks arn't normally covered but there are a few clauses to check, cant remember off hand as it was a while ago i last read the warranty t+c,s

It could well be the valve cover gasket. There are know to leak. Make sure that they rule this out as a root cause before they pull your engine.
