No airbags went off, not sure why but the pick up truck guy reckoned if they had then I wouldn't be here .

The airbags need a particular crash profile to deploy, a sideways roll won't normally deploy the passenger and driver dashboard airbags as there isn't enough forward deceleration (and the car is doing less than 20mph when it finally hits an object the airbag won't deploy) and a sideways roll probably won't deploy the side airbags as the sideways deceleration/acceleration won't have the correct pattern (remember they are setup to deploy when a car is hit from the side not when it rolls).

Airbags only deploy under particular circumstances that are usually only seen in a "normal" situation where the car remains on all 4 wheels.

Like everyone else here in our RS4 community, I'm real pleased to see you got out relatively unscathed Dazie, and for having the balls to admit that it was down to over-enthusiastic driving rather than other factors.

On the insurance front, stick out for the proper price. When a truck driver decided to write off out 3-Series Touring a few years ago, the initial offer from the insurance company was derisory, so was the increased offer. I told told the assessor to find me an identical car with the same spec (M-Sport, heated leather seats, dog guard etc) and I'd have it. He increased the offer by return.

Good luck.

Yeah, you'd have never heard the end of that one!!

Just out of interest, how old were the tyres? And what make? I know you said it was your own fault but worn tyres have a massive impact on the cars ability to remain on the road.

Not always the case... new tyres on all corners and hitting standing water.

Tyres won't save you when aquaplanning whether they are new or old, but worn tyres are clearly more dangerous than new tyres (once the tyres have bedded in). My tyres are worn and the cars ability to corner and stop has changed massively.

New tyres, dry conditions and a lucky rabbit's foot can't save you from not being able to read a road and judge your speed properly ;-)
