Good news, let us know what you get

Also maybe a slight acceptance by them that there is a valid claim here?

So they've given me a '62' plate s4. And I gotta say its a really nice car.
As for my car, seeing as I now have a vehicle to get me about I popped into the dealers this afternoon and the engine still isn't out, as far as I can work out they've just taken the sump off to investigate further but it looks as though a gudgeon pin has failed. They still don't know the reason why and its possible the piston is seized too. The next step is to take the engine out and check valves etc for further damage and a possible cause of failure. It's been 15 days now and I'm still no closer to knowing the reason, actually starting to really miss my car now.......

But a B8 S4 should help though. Get it down to MRC for a remap and you won't want to give it back!

Gudgeon pin would fail if the piston was siezed in the cylinder.

I'm sure the b8 s4 will keep me going for now, probably not gonna do the remap, I'm guessing that would be frowned upon :s4addict:
Does anyone have any thoughts about this gudgeon pin? I don't really know much about them?
O Ye and he also said oil pump was all ok and bearings were all ok apart from the 2 conrods shown as per the previous photo.

The loan car should take the edge off the pain for now.

the gudgeon pin is what connects the conrod to the piston itself.

They are generally strong but the most likely (in my experience) point of failure should the piston sieze in the cylinder. The most common reason I've seen for a siezed piston is a complete failure of the oil spray systm on the cylinder. Either failed pump, lack of oil or oil breakdown. Piston rings can fail but generally cause an aweful mess and smoke out the exhaust.

But also, the pin can fail through damage in the crank or bearings... so need to see if it's the cause or a symptom. However the piston being stuck is quite telling.

I'm sure he said the gudgeon pin down by the crank, at the bottom of the conrod? Does that make sense?

Yes because we all know the warranty company (audi) expressly discourages anyone from accelerating their $100,000 sports sedan , from 0-110 mph.

A car for which they boasted of nurburgring lap times, and the very car they used at audi experience track days, including fun drag racing sessions on the straights, all over the world.

Good thing you always keep yours below 45.

All warranties I have seen state that it'll be void if used for time trials. Drag strip runs would definitely count in that.

Then he is wrong there is only one gudgeon pin and it holds the piston to the crank. The pins at the other end are what rod cap bolts.
