I have same problem with reading lights
Fine as part of main interior lights, but on there own - ie when pressing button - not good. seen an old digital watch kick out more light.

Also how do you replace rear reading lights.

There's a definite skill in fitting the floor lights (the circuit board type)
Sadly one wire came off its solder, and paying £20 for a soldering iron to fix this, didn't seem cost effective, trumps can you send another along with missing interior one. You might want to think about reading light issue.

Numberplate LED issue now resolved - see my post on what the problem was. (Not related). Terrible timing.

As a rule I would check all lights are working before replacing.

To get to the rear map lights I just carefully eased the whole unit out. Lots easier than the fronts to fit.

Maplin were doing a whole soldering kit for under a tenner.

Looking at the wiring for the front maps it is more complex - anyone seen those bulbs with a diode bridge in them? I cannot imagine that is Pulse Width Modulated.

Could just be a voltage drop to get the fade effect.

Yeah could be a lower voltage on button alone. It kind of flickers dimly.

Easy enough to check with a silly scope if you've got one. Maybe a multimeter might show you what's going on.

Just a bit of a warning about Ultraleds.co.uk. I have bought some of their kit and it hasn't lasted long at all. I put this down to experience.

However, now they won't accept some bulbs that I bought that were broken (cracked), preferring to piss me off for the sake of a couple of quid.

Not only that, but they are rude and unpleasant to deal with. Very poor customer service.

They were good with me about 5 years ago when I had a side light bulb fail, sent another bulb put straight away and didn't ask for failed bulb back. Have been lucky that the side light and number plate light bulbs have been ok. I have read lots of negative comments about them on the world wide webby.

And for the other side of the coin, I have decked out 4 cars now fully, using bulbs from them and I have still not had a single bulb failure. This is going back close to 8 months or so now. They are as only as good as the random manufacturer supplying them at the time though and that is no excuse for poor customer service.

That's the best thing about these forums.

You get an honest feedback, rather than listen to the companies saying they have a 99% happy customer feedback. Customer service nowadays is vital to making a business survive.

I was going to buy from ultraleds, but when my car comes out if storage ill be getting a kit from Trupps.

Amendments made as per your thoughts on the kits, the front Dome lights will now come with the longer bulb so no modding needs doing to the holders.

Anyone that live close to me want to be a test mule for me for the map lights? i want to find a way of sorting this issue.
