Grizz: what days are you open next week? and what loan cars have you got? ;)
I'll buy it off ya.

Glad you got the DRC issue sorted. Reading all the problems on your sig that your car has, im amazed you even purchased it. Goes to show there are some dogs around. Bradford area seems to produce a lot of them. That area always seems to get flagged on this forum.

Im glad you have found a new love with your car Tony

I am into the 6th year of ownership with my RS4, I have had a few problems but no where near as many as mentioned in your sig. Was you aware of the problems before you purchased the car?

I just didn't really do my homework tbh, I had a couple of test drives and it seemed good. Engine's sweet as a nut. I got some money knocked off for the worn bolster (which appears to be the case on everyone's car) and other bits and bobs, but the rest discovered later on. That V8 sound just sucked me in and my hand produced the visa card before I knew what had happened.

Getting there now though, going to get seat covers re-trimmed which will sort the worn bits and I'm hoping it should be pretty easy to fix the puncture in inflatable bolsters. Then for a paint correction/detail and it will be a beauty.

its intresting reading what you are saying TonyHayers, I am the same. I will go view one, hear that lovely v8, see the lovely arches and will already be signing the cheque.

As a I'm a new rs4 buyer, I am worried about this issue too. Can you give me some advice when going to view one, how will i ever know? From what I have read, isn't it just pot luck?

yeah I have read that. But when you are going for a test drive its hard to pick up if the car feels not right when braking/cornering. Being a new rs4 driver, I'll be like a kid behind the wheel. I will ofcourse take extra care, but am worried I will end up with a big bill.

Ok, here's a few thoughts based on what I've learnt recently:

* Drive a few different cars and don't rush in - this will give you an idea of when something is wrong on a particular vehicle.
* The ride should be firm but there shouldn't be any rattles or knocks, at some point on the test drive, open all the windows so you can have a listen.
* Get a torch and inspect the shocks. Generally speaking, the shock body should be dry - walk away if there is any fluid visibly leaking from any of the shocks.
* When the car is on a flat surface have a look round and make sure there isn't a noticeable difference in ride height in each corner.
* Take the car to somewhere like Unit20 and pay them to give the car a once over - that's probably the best way of knowing.
* Btw, any trade seller is obliged to fix major issues within 6 months as consumer law assumes any fault within 6 months was there when you bought it (I'm not sure of the exact law, but its what trading standards told me). But, it's probably going to be easier if you've got a warranty. Audi approved warranty is probably better than a private one, but then you're probably paying £5k more for the privilege of buying from the Audi stealer anyway!

Overall, I wasn't really out of pocket that bad with mine in the end. The RAC warranty paid £1300 to have used parts fitted by an indy and a regas at Audi (after a battle). Unfortunately, it took 5 weeks since the indy didn't really know what they were doing and then Audi cocked up the regas and then when I got the car back it was worse than before it went in, and was only fixed after taking it to Unit20.

Hope that helps.

Of course, and know what you mean.

I purchased my car when there was hardly any information on the B7 RS 4 at all. The info on here was built up over time since purchase. You guys are lucky ;)

thank you for taking the time to reply with the useful information TonyHayers. I have just been looking through Unit20's Facebook pictures. Those guys have a awesome job. I will be taking my rs4 there for a health check.

The above is misleading.
The bit about 'any fault in six months' etc...
This is not true.

My guess is that the tony is referring to the revised sale of goods act.
However and this is key - the actual legislation refers to parts that are not reasonably verified at time of purchase.
So if the gearbox goes bang or something like that the you have a case.
If with the drc there is an obvious symptom such as a leaking shock then sorry - you are bang out of luck.
A good rule of thumb is that if you need to remove parts or jack the car up on a ranp then its not reasonable to inspect.
Something like a leaking shock is obvious.
So IF the shock isn't leaking when purchased but the leaks a month later then you are on shaky ground.

The sale of goods act is NOT a warranty.

Also, in my experience it is not unusual for the rear or the car to be sitting lower than the front. If you look at a lot of pictures, most RS4s (that have OEM suspension) sit lower at the rear (probably cos they spend a lot of time accelerating!) however, they should still be equal heights both sides.

In fact it is NORMAL for the rear to be lower than the front.
