Amanda needed to shut up, but AMD's reply was overly harsh too. There is a professional way of dealing with things, and that wasn't it. Anyway, that's all I will say on it. I hope these bombproof gearboxes work out for you all, personally, I'd rather stab myself in the foot then spend £5,500 on an uprated box on my ageing C5, I do admire you mad ba5tards that are going to go through with it though, 'nuff respek, init.

Soooo, when/if your gearbox dies you'll just sell it 'as is' or break it? While you own a C5, this should be on your radar. I'm not paranoid, I just own an RS6...

I personally didn't mind AmD's response, it seems they felt vindicated to not have Amanda as a client, it's their prerogative and they're not being secretive about it. I'm not sure it's something I'd do but I do respond well to honesty so I ain't bothered. My opinion hasn't changed of them.

I will be fitting a completely standard OEM one, yes. The problem with the uprated box for me is, plenty of standard RS6 gearboxes last 100k+ (tuned cars) so when do you conclude that the £2k extra you spent on the gearbox was worthwhile, when an OEM one could have lasted the exact same amount of time? (100k)

I was nearly convinced when there was talk of the one Daveperc had fitted offering less drivetrain loss and quicker changes (I think), but he has not noticed a difference in the drive, nor have the dyno plots shown he gets any extra WHP then he did on the standard box so drivetrain loss is the same too.

It makes sense for you, Bam, as you’re stage three, and Footers as he drives like a loony (from what he tells us), and Daveperc does a million miles a year so had I been in any of your boats, I would have gone for it it, but it isn’t for me, especially as I'll more than likely have sold the car in another 10k miles max. I’ll still be following the developments with interest and I know AMD do great stuff, and a part of me wants to give Shaun a pat on the back for the balls to type that, I hope I’m not going all PC all of a sudden.

Amar, I can assure you that I drive like quite the prize tool at the best of times, not necessarily proud of that but it in my genes from my family/roots and I am not getting any calmer in my senior years . Driving swiftly and knowing how to get myself out of sticky situations is a real passion of mine and always has been. I wouldn't have slapped a load more power in to this car, stuck on some of the very best rubber that money can buy and service it every few thousand because I drive like a Grandad.

I enjoy the full potential of this car whenever possible, to the point where I overcooked it on a slip road off the M3 Camberley just today going to Chemo, in the wet & rain and was having to feather/boot the throttle lots while mildly sawing the steering wheel around the slip road at a totally different angle to the direction of the road itself. Been a little while since I have had to to that, last time was in Fluffy in similar conditions at well over a ton on entry (by accident honest), oopsie .

Next time you see madam ask how how I drive and see what she says. She will most likely say like a mental that takes absolutely no prisoners but she trusts my judgement 99.9%. I am hoping to have some kind of track slag running for the next Audis in the park and am heavily considering just keeping the scrappy Cupra for just this reason but Madam is waffling on about buying a house and getting a baby stuck up her or some such nonsense. If I bin the track car, big whoop, main beasts stay intact.

Anyway, on to the Gearbox stuff. I have a confession to make. I may have let it slip to AmD that IMO Panda is crazier than a box of frogs and that she scares me, sorry about that that. Feel free to spank me the next time you see me darling, if you can catch me (good luck with that)!

Ben isn't working today or tomorrow, I know as I was talking to him yesterday when he was preparing the final bill for the S3 etc, hence why you might not be getting any reply to this soon.

No way in hell would I drop 3K or so on a bog standard box currently, we have all been reading the same stuff on the OE gearbox life lottery yes???? Forget that, I will take splurging a couple more K on a tougher box that I can let the engine try to get the very best out of and if we are Guinea Pigs to a certain degree, so be it. I have NO intentions of ever selling this car as I would take a bath to put it mildly, no point. Might as well just make it as perfect as I can then.

I know you lot say I change my mind a lot -so believe what you like, but I have a confession, I’ve been talking to Porsche and they have come back with some figures I’m happy with, which means I am pretty much set to put a deposit down on a 997 Turbo in the new year. If I was in the RS 6 for the long term, then, yes… I’d be getting sort of excited. All of you have craved something a little more fun, Footlong – you with the S3, and wanting to keep the Cupra as a track car, and Bam/Shop have also had track car threads… My second car will hardly be driven so it seems silly having the RS 6 and something fun too, so the Porker will be my only fun car, and the plus will be going sometime in the next 4-6 months. It will come with a two year Porsche warranty too, which was one of the other reasons I had for changing - no worrying about random four figure repair bills before Christmas. I'm dead set on the Porsche deal, if it doesn't go through it will be for reasons out of my control.

I didn't get the S3 for me, I got it as a gift for madam as I wanted her to have the full fat experience instead of the pocket rocket cupra experience. I simply don't do stock on cars that is boring and for the 99% of the population. I will probably never drive the S3, just like I never drive the Cupra really. I have TONS of fun in the 6 but that comes at a highish cost/risk, simple as. I don't mind paying for the beating that I give the car as if I did then I bought the wrong car.

The ONLY reason that I am considering keeping the Cupra is that I can hammer that about everywhere and just not care about it really as if it breaks then oh well and if I bin it on a track or otherwise, oh well again. It doesn't tug on my heartstrings at all compared to the 6 and will be a lot cheaper to repair, assuming t isn't bent in half.
