Thanks guys, and cheers Prawn  you are a one man consumer test!

I did have a set of Konis on order at AMD to use with the standard springs (At AMD's suggestion), but the Koni factory is still on their summer shut down and this wasn't really a cheap option anyway.

About to be hit by a bill from the builder that did my house extension for "extras", and until I know exactly how much it is I'm going to stick with what I have.

Thanks again for all the advice

I'm now in the same position with my current RS4 suspension after buying DavidR's car.
The back end is too twitchy at hi speed and needs some more dampening, any suggestions for road use only?

Not sure my experience will help very much. But I fitted 2nd hand RS4 suspension to my previous S4 avant. It was a tremendous improvement over the tired stock S4 set up. Ok wasn't the best but better than S4 stock. However, I don't know what starting point a lot you guys are coming from with ownership of and S4 are the majority of you second hand owners in which case there is a marked decrease in perofrmance of these shock from 30k miles on. I'm finding the same with my 38K miles RS4. I treid my mates stock S4 recently with only 24K miles his shocks/handling wasn't too bad!

Unlike David my rear end sat a bit lower than the front which I didn't like the look off.

As for fitting time. The rears are a doddle 1hr per side easily. However the front can be a different matter. If you can't get the front pinch bolt out which is notorious for siezing. (i.e. The 15mm or 17mm nut/bolt you see almost level with the top of the tyre if you look under the arch.) You could be looking at some serious labour time if the fitter doesn't have the seemingly rare tool to impact drive the bolt out. This is not an Audi tool. and Audi will use heat at the risk of melting the adjacent rubber boots of the top ali arms. These are £55 each and there are 2 per side. They figure their time is more expensive than replacing these which is true! I ended up removing the whole hub, to have the bolt pressed out. I did this with one side and managed to struggle the damper out and in on the other side without undoing the pinch bolt but you have to be SO CAREFUL not to damage the £25 Audi driveshaft boots and its very akward.

Steve, check and then try adjusting the tyre pressures at the rear. Although I told the tyre monkey my preferred settings, the tyres are a different make to previously and I didn't get chance to double check them and didn't really drive fast in between them being fitted and selling the car. The rear was always fairly sound with the Michelins on, it may be a free fix for you. :)

David,

Funny you should say that, i checked the tyres all round with a digital halfords gauge and one of the rears was at 39! the other at 35 and the fronts were round about the 36 mark.

I might just drop the rears to 33.5 for a starter.
What do you think, what were your pre settings?

Steve.
