Re: Improving Track Performance
The answer is don't track it
Its <beep> on track
If you really really want an answer the answer is remove 400kg from the car

Re: Improving Track Performance
......which is what two friends of mine did on a joint venture. They bought a cheap well-worn D2 A8 4.2 quattro Sport in silver.... stripped it bare, one bucket seat, cut loads of wiring out, most of the dash, most of the rear bulkhead, something crazy like 400 kilos lighter!D_K wrote:If you really really want an answer the answer is remove 400kg from the car

That is complete BS!!adsgreen wrote:Tbh gtr isn't much better. It's stonking for 1 maybe 2 laps but then physics kicks in and needs to cool down.
Gearbox temp will put the car in limp mode for a bit - pretty frustrating.

Re: Improving Track Performance
Yep, Radical is scary stuff but really rewarding if you do it right.
E.g. there is a corner in my local track on apex of which I was going 120 km/h in my RS6, 135 in track-prepped RS4 (braking in each case from roughly 190) and ... 165 in a Radical. Then I learnt that in a Radical you don't have to lift in this corner
(which means c. 190 through it)... This shows you the difference... But I agree due to slower traffic - most fun is on Radical only events (which there is plenty of hopefully)

Re: Improving Track Performance
I've tracked mine a couple of times - Goodwood and Nurburgring. It's fun in its own right (not as much fun as much lighter cars but it's a different kind of fun) and the brakes take a real pasting, although that's not an issue if you have spare pads ready. I had no issues with fluid temperatures, in fact it was all rather serene even trail-braking into Woodcote from almost 160mph. It can deal with some lift-off oversteer very controllably but the overall package makes power oversteer hard to achieve without being really aggressive. A completely stripped out one with poly windows, etc, would reduce the weight by over 500Kg, then it would start to get more interesting.
Do it for the experience, but I wouldn't recommend one as a regular track car, there are so many better options out there. Being the Jekyll/Hyde of the road is what it's best at.

Wow Muzz, 500kg is a lot to shed, even with understanding you are talking some serious diet. Have you seen/heard of someone trying this?

Re: Improving Track Performance
I've not heard of anyone doing it to a C6 but it's not a huge deal in theory. There was a chap that raced a C5 RS6 in the VLN series. That was a mighty cast car.
The weight isn't a problem to lose - think of all the extremely heavy seats, metal frames, upholstery, electronic actuators/motors, padding, sound deadening, airbags, etc, there's even what looks like a 1980s hi-fi rack in the boot just for the satnav! The car carries around so much baggage which is nice and comfy on a road car but completely redundant on a track car. You would need to be careful about how much wiring you remove, as the ECU might not like it and would need a keen programmer to isolate and turn off the various resulting alerts. I'd be temptedto do it to a Cat D or high miler if I didn't already have other toys in the garage.

Re: Improving Track Performance
Didn't one of MRC's customers in Romania strip out a 850PS avant and it won some world record drag time or something
Either that or I was drunk

Re: Improving Track Performance
yes, see the 'otheRS' site, MRC forum topic 'latest MRC800 conversion completed'
Quote: "ran today a 10.9sec 1/4 mile at 35 degrees ambient"
It was mildly stripped, but I'd be surprised if it lost more than 150kg IMO.
