should have compared with same tyres on both cars. Think the beemer had pilot super sports fitted from what he said which are probably a lot better than continentals.

still, impressive performance for the new 135i. what they should do next is put the 153i up against the 40k BMW 1M and see if they think thats worth 10k more given those performance figures (4.5 sec to 60 and sub 11 to 100 for the 135i) that might upset the M boys a little! :assflash:

One more impression from the vid - as I was watching the RS3 I thought "have they sped the film up"? I swear the car is defying the laws of physics!

He has Clarksonitis. He is trying to emulate Jeremy in his reviews...you can hear it in his inflection and style now. Further at Clarkson school, the first point of business these days? Hate Audi, who are becoming very popular.
It used to be hate BMW....but now that Audi is the brand on a pedestal with all the cool kids, hating it seems to be popular with these TV (or YouTube) presenters.

Further the Audi crushed the BMW where it counts...by nearly a full second on a dry track over a short lap. Interesting that it was a real power track with lots of straight sections, and even though in the straight line run the BMW 'won', it failed to make up time. He seems more concerned with drifting the cars than living with them as PG said above.

On looks alone that BMW is not viable. It is heinous.

Further the Audi weighs a few hundred pounds more and only makes 15 more HP but through awd drivetrain loss. Why is he surprised the BMW wins the drag race eventually? He should know this...and he does. So why is he yelling with glee "where is the power Audi??"

Finally...notice on the in car on the track how you couldn't even hear him in the BMW? That chincy little tin can piece of <beep> sounded like someone took the roof off or put his microphone in the engine bay. Atrocious. The rs3 he was talking calmly and we could hear everything he said, clearly (while he was running a full second faster lol).

I love how on the drag race he decided to make it a two mile race to ensure the BMW would catch up. Anyone remember the last time they did a two mile drag race? Over a quarter mile the Audi rapes. Over a half mile the Audi rapes. Over a mile the Audi wins. Pushed to two miles the BMW catches up and wins by a car length. Yay BMW.

Epic failure by Harris.

In the real world on narrow twisty roads with traffic coming the other way, drifting is totally irrelevant (and might even get you a fine and points for dangerous driving) a car that is better to live with should always get the better rating - but these presenters seem to be on an ego trip to display their driving "skills" and don't usually have to live long-term with the cars they give rave reviews too.

I love how everyone here tries to make excuses for the Audi, just accept the BMW won the test. I didn't see him try to drift either of them. Trust me, you do not need to be drifting a BMW to realise how well balanced and what great drivers cars they are. It is very noticeable driving within the limits of UK roads. DK made the only valid point, it is an old chasis and the new S3 is probably the better rival for the new M135. Anyway, I'd love an RS 3, I didn't even know the M135 thingi existed.

The RS3 beating the Beemer on the track in a fast lap was a bit of a surprise for me. Curious how an 1M would hold up against that M135i......

Anyway, the new 1 series is ugly as hell, so wouldn't consider it even for a moment.

Not sure how can you say the BMW won the test when as far as I could see the Audi went round the track nearly 1 second faster beat the BMW from 0-60 0-100 in fact 0-to everything up to 140 and never heard of a 2 mile drag race before. so I'm not sure which test the BM actually won.
Although the M135i is probably the bargain performance contender of the year :)

I think your missing the point, I don't think anyone here would disagree that in the hands of a professional racing driver on a track on the limit the BMW is going to be the more complete package with more finesse and controlability, especially given its weight advantage and being RWD. The reality is 99.99% of owners are not professional racers and 99% of the time RS3s will be on public roads so its a pointless test. If we wanted stupid fast lap times we all could have bought GT-Rs (40k will get you a nice one).

I bought one because it is bonkers fast A-B regardless of the weather and extremely predictable and easy to place up to 99% of the cars limit especially for someone of my limited driving talents, its only when you drive it on the limit does the car understeer, and tbh if your doing that on a public road you will be going so fast you will be looking at jail time in the UK not a ban. Also adjusting a car mid corner on the throttle will get you done for DD if caught ;)

Whats irksome to me (and many others i guess) is that Harris set out to exaggerate the characteristics of the car so much to get his point across that the RS3 is a POS. He drove the bimmer smoothly yet was deliberately over driving the 3 to unsettle the weight of the car to make it understeer more, the test was like Jenson Button v Clarkson right down to the toys out of the pram moment onboard and destroying the RS3s tyres in 6 laps (clarkson would be proud). It was poor journalism and an unnecessary deliberate hatchet job.

Which is a shame as i think monkey produces the best vids out there but then his agenda got the better of him. :bash:

I don't get why some people slag the interior off it looks identical to the TT to me and no one flames that?
