Good that you're going to be reunited - these engines can take a good deal of hurt - they're designed to. I'd get it to Doug or Glen to give it the once over then put a supercharger on it and move to the country. Love to know what the insurance company say. (Glad it's back Nick).

Incidentally, I recently replaced our UPVC door locks with anti-snap anti-bump ones, probably a good investment :/

went to see the car today... these low life scum are truely the lowest of the low.... from the outside the car looks ok, a scuffed alloy and a nick on the back bumper.... however the interior has been damaged, plastic trims are missing, the boot is stripped and ripped, looks expensive... i do hope the insurance doesn't right it off

No doubt all done whilst trying to see if the car had a tracker.

Carpets and plastic trim is worthless second hand but a fortune new from Audi.... maybe worth a shout to one of the specialists like Unit 20, MRC, APS, QST, they break the odd car, pieces like that would go straight in the bin etc. There are enough RS4s written off, plus boot trim would be the same as other models (bar the relocated battery)

The insurer would replace with new parts which might tip the balance over the edge.... but if you could get a stack of parts second hand that might bring the balance back in your favour

When mine was written off recently because the seats were stolen I took the insurance money, bought it back as scrap and got the work done myself. OK it's now category D but I made a few quid out of the deal and it looks great now. The plus side is that I know the history of the car and didn't have to buy a replacement that could have been driven hard and not looked after properly

Anyone know what repair cost value an insurance write off would be? And if the car is repaired how that will affect resale value?

Resale value will be hit not due to the repair but the "stolen recovered" mark on the vehicle's history.

Now, in theory you can claim for this difference on insurance. Apparently has been done before but I personally have no experience of this.
The argument is that insurance is there to insure you against loss and there is clear evidence of loss of value. However depends on excess and how long you expect to keep the car.

My insurance company ( Admiral ) let me buy the car back for 35% of the insurance payout value, so in theory £20k payout , £7k to buy it back leaves £13k to fix the damage and spend on toys. I got most of my bits and pieces, including seats on ebay. I still need a couple of little bits but I'm prepared to wait for a while.
Put a list up on here of bits you need as I've got some spares and I'm sure others do too.

Police have finished with the car, need to wait for the insurance evaluation then decide what my options are

You really need a full check on your engine n gearbox cos it has probably been screwed, also the fuzz aint known for being careful with cars in their yard so can did you take any pics of the car before it went to them ?

Whatever happened to good old hangings, make a proper pay per view event on Sky.

Hide the keys next time, preferably around the neck of a rather bad tempered staffy.

Forget alarms n locks cos theres nowt they wont get thru if they really want your car, go to the local rescue centre and buy a dog, for the cost of some food and the odd bit of furniture remodelling its a worthwhile investment.
