Footlong, look for a dentist who took some postgraduate courses at the Royal College of Surgeons England or Eastman Dental Institute. Graduates from these institutions are very good.
But be ready to spend a small fortune, these dentists are not cheap...

Lionheart, sorry for stealing your post. As Grizz said, call AA and have the car repaired by someone who knows the stuff. Because when the piston meets the valve, a magic smoke comes out of the engine and that's the end...

Footlong, one other way to get a decent dentist is if you speak to a specialist and ask who makes decent referrals. Postgraduate letters are not always a guarantee of excellence, one of the top guys in the UK, Tidu Mankoo only has BDS.

Surely a cam locking tool isn't that expensive.

NO, they are peanuts. That's the scary thing. I can't believe anyone would attempt to change one without the proper tools.

Just price it into the cost of the work. Hopefully no permanent damage has occurred.

The sealey locking tool set includes the camlocks, crank pin, idler pin (to push back the piston) and adjustable pulley wrench - all for about £90. All you need then is a bigger pulley which can be had for about £30.

When I buy my set I might think about renting them out for a small fee.
