Yeah, was referencing the USA terminology, hence why it was in brackets

I can't think of a worse use of my $ or your pounds then buying a 'lightweight' hood for an RS4.

The stock B7 A4/S4 steel hood weighs aroun 52 lbs.

Carbon Fibre B7 hoods weigh between 10-16 lbs, depending on their construction.

So, if you drive an A4/S4, it's a 30-40 lb weight savings which is significant, but unsprung weight...I can't really say you would ever feel that change. Still every little bit helps, but at $1000-2000 or so dollars/600-1200 pounds, just to save 30 lbs or so of unsprung weight...we should look deeper.

ON A B7 RS4...our hood is made of aluminium already, and only weighs about 28 lbs. Weight savings is therefore only 10-20 lbs.

So you're going to put an aftermarket looking, aftermarket fitting hood on the car, at significant cost (not to mentiont he risk of it blowing back and destroying your car. ask Mickf29 about that...he had $18,000 in damage when his carbon fibre hood failed, blew back, and destroyed much of his roof/interior/paint.) just to save weight that will feel like gaining about 1 horsepower.

If you do it for looks, that's subjective and up to you of course. If you do it for ventillation, again, not sure how effective it is, but that could be a help. But if you're doing it for weight, save your money.

^ Actually, cab variants of the RS4 have a steel bonnet. Not that that's particularly relevant.

I'd consider one for mine but purely for cosmetic reasons.
As mentioned the weight saving is not massive unless its a track toy then every little helps

+1

I love Caldy's carbon bonnet, just don't like the idea of having bonnet pin/catch put on (not into the track car look).

Yes Douglas I did have my suspicions too. Do you know of an option. It's just for cosmetic purposes really, may go with a black gloss to match rest of car!
