Forgot to add the same - the only reason I would store a car unused for 5 years would purely be down to it appreciating in value.

As above - yes, it's a limited run car but it's passed it's peak. In 5 years time most cars will be 8-10 years old and 100k+ on the clocks.
Sub 10k is very possible.

Other points - you've no idea what the market (both car and general) will be like in 5 years time. Petrol is likely to be through the roof so a 20mpg (if you're lucky) big V8 is going to be a tax and fuel monster.

Also need to consider you're own circumstances - cash in hand is always a good thing. If anything happened and you needed to sell it then you'll lose even more.

Saudi.

Look, I feel that you guys have all become 'haters'!!! This is the last of theBIG V8s surely - turbos are the new thing now. I'd love to pick the car up in 5 years, 43k on the clock living the post apocalyptic Mad Max dream! Fuel will still hurt as will road tax but I'll have it detailed and it'll feel like new. Either that or sell it and build up my R35 fund but the GTR wouldn't be the old car, it just wouldn't. I get the 'store an appreciating asset' type vibe but what cars that we can afford are appreciating? My mates F360 - everyday just losing money, he may aswell roll up £20 notes and smoke them every morning. I get what you're saying ads, your last post had 4 exceptionally relevant points that has got me thinking damn it. I've always laughed at those adverts for B7 RS4's with only 10k on the clock for £38k - we all know they are the worse ones to own! But this car will be mine, it's had a purposeful life and the only, the ONLY thing that worries me really is fuel costs in 5 years time. The car's paid off, I just think it might want a 5 year holiday :(

Am I honestly the only guy here thinking that this is a good idea because it worries me if I am?

Nope. I'd consider doing same in your situation - I wouldn't really worry too much what other people think.... I'm pretty sure they would ignore your opinion about their own cars too

Not sure about the whole it's 'only' a B7 A4 is coming from (checks forum title) - it's a V8 400+bhp compact 4 wheel drive sports saloon built like a tank. The world isn't bursting with them...and many people will never be in a position to run a mint/tuned example much as they would love too.

Also having been round the RS4 buying loop twice over the last couple of years I don't buy into the 'you'll get another one in 5 years quite easily'.... if you want a prime condition car in a certain colour with a specific set of options....it was a struggle 2 years ago....and took me so long this year to find one in the ball park I nearly gave up and bought a C63 (not really lol) ......

There are many companies who specialise in long term storage, tailoring the storage maintenance routine from a 'menu' to suit the car - most I'm aware of are in London though.

Didn't Michael Caine pick his Aston up from one at the beginning of the Italian Job? :)

One other thing to consider is that chances are B8 RS4's will be B7 RS4 money at the moment... possibly less.
Sell now, keep money, no storage hassles and then a much newer more techy V8 tank in 5 years?

^ Being on this forum for a while I've come to believe saloon owners & avant owners are a different breed & saloon owners are prob happier moving across brands than jump to a different platform like an avant. So the B8 maybe a non-starter for some.

Yeah, I'm not an avant guy so the B8 isn't really my thing. The truth is that my car isn't really all optioned up. I was going to do the MRC Stage 2, CAF and some other things and I just thought 'why do them now when I'm not even driving it?'. I still think this car will turn heads in 5 years time, I could get all the options done then. It'll cost £1700 per year to store. I'm still thinking about it. Then again sell now for £20k, save the £9k over 5 years, buy a used GTR for £30k in 5 years time but then I've got MASSIVE servicing costs and no back seat ARRRRGGGGHH - this is all too complicated. I thought of selling and running a small Elise/Exige for £10k instead. I'm quite fond of the wife's MX-5 actually (don't tell anyone, but the chassis is awesome.)

£1,700pa ?
x 5
=
£8,500

you are even "thinking" about spending north of £13k on an RS 4 for 5yrs and not even drive it ?

Things don't always have to make economic sense.

Tim mentioned tha it's because he's going to work over seas over a few years. That requires quite an upheaval. He might be getting nicely paid for his efforts teaching lots of little Mexican kamikaze pilot (or whoever) how to fly properly. A little present to himself might be the ability to slot right back into his same beloved car when alls done and he returns to his UK life again.

Just thought I'd balance up the argument!

It does not make sense to store the car at all :drink:

Thanks for the balance stu! D_K, Paul and Silas - I am coming round to your ways of thinking but I still like the idea of storing it, forgetting about it for 5 years and then going to collect it! I've also been looking at Exige S2's also, I don't know what's got into me!
