Servicing Audi or time to go independent

Post by Oak » Mon Sep 10, 2012 7:26 pm

Just wondering if its worth staying with Audi given the age of our machines or is it time to go to the specialists, MRC etc.

I am tempted to jump ship as I never seem to leave an Audi garage very happy.

Depends on what work, personally i would get the car serviced at dealer. Mines booked in on Thursday for brake fluid and 50k service. Prices are not that much different from indie and you get the stamp.

Just research into where the good dealers are, there not all wank ;)

Sonny, will Audi bung your race spec brake fluid in or the standard VAG stuff?

That's the "million dollar question".

I think the best answer is: It depends on the dealer.

Mine wouldn't as they would need to flush their system (compressed tank) before using my fluid. So basically said "sorry, no"

I think Sonny's will .... !?

depends...
some dealers suck, some are good, same for indies
find a good one of either and the service will be equal imo
the indie should be less expensive due to lower overhead and profit expectation

I got a quote for a 50k service from Audi of £344. This is without them changing the air filter as it has a K&N. They never mentioned a brake fluid change. For essentially an oil and filter change I think it's a bit excessive.

Not sure if this quote is around what others are paying.

Quick Update

Just working the phones on servicing costs, for the oil, various filters , spark plugs and the all important screen wash, the local dealers are talking roughly £590 to £650.

I was only getting an oil and filter change. They told me it wasn't due plugs at this time. Mine is on the long life schedule. Am I being told the wrong information?

A little off topic but do you guys also get your MOT done at the dealers?

I’m only asking as so far mine has always been done with Audi but I have a very good family friend who is a mechanic and can do the MOT if needed.

Cheers

Yes, because I'm lazy and it's coincided with service time / other work.

I thought mine deserved new plugs by now, appreciate that it can go longer without a change.

I did get my MOT done by Audi last year for free, was a bit worried that they were going too fit me up with a massive bill somehow but they didn't.
