Re: Another Hotchkis ARB convert
I have hotchkins arb and pss9 - my DRC was not faulty and i was very happy with the ride on a motorway. However on country roads it just wasn't sporty enough. so I had the arb setup installed by grizz (I think medium) this improved the understeer a bit, and helped with the body roll, but fundamentally the DRC wasnt firm enough.
Over various road surfaces the suspension just didn't feel tight - as for example on a new car - so I asked grizz to fit new arms, bushes, anti roll bar links, track control arms, and pss9s.
Having driven the car now for 2k miles I have some feedback. Sadly he didn't get time to change the bushes / arms on the rear - however I did ask him to set arb to stiffest. So I'm not sure if my issues are related to this. So Here's my list of issues:
At certain speeds - mainly between 70-90 I can feel vibrations through the cabin. like a balancing issue. It was really bad to start with after picking up the car - this later turned out to be passenger side front drive shaft diff housing - this was replaced and this sorted the ore serious issue - but left a minor one.
All the tyres have been replaced with conti sports (evo 2012 winners) wheels balanced, checked for buckles, 4 wheel alignment (the rear passenger camber needs slight adjustment), otherwise everything is good. In fairness they tried to do sort this but bolts were seized (they didn't want to break anything).
The pss9 front ride height sits slitightly lower than stock - tyres flush with the arch. The rear on the other hand look like the stock plus ride height. I have noticed the wobble is better with a full tank than with half tank.
The damping / bounce is very good, and I would say comparative to DRC - but better on country roads - but at times the rear feels a bit less squat than the front.
The biggest issue I have is road feedback. On certain road surfaces I can feel vastly more through the steering wheel than I would like. I have no idea how to fix this. Example - I drive the same route home from work most days - since the pss9 setup - the vibration through the car from some road surfaces simply wasn't there with DRC. It's as though some form of damping has gone from the steering - I can't determine if this is play in the steering rack or damping that was part of the DRC. The odd thing is the damping/bounce of pss9 is comparable to DRC but it's almost like there is an oscillating damping that the DRC did that isn't there in the pss9. I simply don't know if its the pss9 setup or some other parts that need changing - Eitherway I'm just not happy with the feel of the car - help! grizz has done all the work but I'm at a complete loss on what else this could be??? Help - car is back with grizz on Wednesday

Re: Another Hotchkis ARB convert
So you dont get feed back through steering wheel over uneven surfaces, almost like a vibration
as far as I can tell steering rack is tight
How do I check the settings? Front/rear to confirm?

Re: Another Hotchkis ARB convert
Depends how you define feedback. Maybe your tracking is out and you are tram-lining.

Re: Another Hotchkis ARB convert
The damper has a dial knob on it to change the settings. Did you ask grizz to pit them on a particular setting? I didn't when mrc did mine. I have changed them to 4 all round.

Re: Another Hotchkis ARB convert
Yes, mine felt very skittish at the rear when it was on 6. The rear end would want to break loose sometimes in a most unnerving manner when loading the front of the car. Since it's been on 4 it's much better. If you have ARBs and your PSS9 aren't set stiff enough then I can imagine the handling being unpleasant. 4 is OK with standard ARBs, I think if you go to uprated ARBs you will need to go even lower to match the effectively increased spring rate.

Re: Another Hotchkis ARB convert
The "feedback" on steering sounds like tramlining to me. I had the same till I had the geometry properly sorted - in particular the rear camber was out on one side. I'd get the alignment checked before you take it back to Grizz on Wed.
I would also question whether you really want the rear ARB on its stiffest setting. I think most of us running the Hotchkis kit are running the lower stiffness at the rear and find it plenty - it's still about 50% stiffer than standard IIRC.
