I was as confused as you guys, until I was put straight by AP Racings representative who looks after all the f1 teams using AP brakes (and has done for years), as we chatted while watching the Barcelona GP inside one of said team's garage in pit lane....
I think you'll find that group c cars also used carbon discs and carbon pads (as do the f1 cars with carbon calipers), and that the serious Porsche contenders ditch the ceramics (pccb) in favour of iron discs - according to mr AP.

GT3 Cup, R and RSR series' don't use ceramics.

your assessment is the same as that I have received from Peter Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Racing who specialises in Porsche Cup cars, etc. here in Oz.
Run steels on the track, never ceramics. Save the ceramics for the road as fantastic brakes, if you have the deep pockets to buy and support them. Otherwise upgraded steels more practical if carrying out hard braking as cheaper to replace than ceramics.

Agree with the above. The ceramic disc doesn't dissipate the heat as well as an iron disc but retains it and transfers it to the pad. That's why as PorkaFly says you need careful management of heat and change pads early. For the track this is the problem.
I hear what you are saying DK about the RS6 and its steels but didn't Nigel warp his £22k set of Mov'it ceramics around the Ring???? Maybe you weren't trying hard enough LOL

the point about having C6 ceramics is not about them not dissapating the heat better than steel, its about them still maintaining braking power DESPITE the heat .... yes it will chew your pads more, but the discs last x4 times steels and I'd rather stop then hit a tree as fixing a smashed up C6 is more expensive than changing pads more often

As having had test driven two rs6's rather vigorously prior to speccing mine, I quickly realised that ceramics were an absolute must.
On the road they are tremendous and confidence inspiring.
My left foot braking and natural braking style is harsh on tyres and brakes but ive found the ceramics to be upto the job and i couldnt imagine my car on steels.
Ive driven every kind of brake, carbon/carbon in racing applications, cast iron racing, carbon ceramics, etc. and they are all for different useages lifespans and braking coefficients. DK is correct by saying carbon ceramics are highly appropriate on this type of vehicle application.
The theory may say whatever about heat dissipation or you go through pads etc but reality is you can punish the ceramics and they are fine.
