That was just normal sticking to speed limits driving, if I hypermilled, I could get it to 70+ easy. I'm not proud of what I'm typing. Let's change the subject before the others get here, back to pads preferably.

On the other side of the fence, as Foot rightly stated, I have had quite a different experience with my XP10s...
Mine have been excellent, dusty yes, and a bit squealy at low speeds, but nothing major and the noise disappears once they've got some heat in them. I've not experienced the 'grinding' that Foot describes, at any speeds, and they have given me nothing but confidence in conjunction with high temp Brembo brake fluid. As Foot says, these are jaw droppingly good, and improve the braking performance of the standard caliper /disc setup beyond expectations.
Foot's bad experience I can only put down to either a dodgy set of pads, or some sort of disc damage/imperfection, which is more apparent with the aggressive XP10 compound.
If you can't stretch to upgraded calipers/discs, then I would recommend the XP10 if you find the standard setup doesn't give you the braking confidence you need when pushing on, as long as you don't mind a bit of dust, and squealing at low speeds.
Overall the pros far outweigh the cons in my experience. As our Graham says on Blinda Data, "The choice... is yours!"

I am eternally grateful for getting the £23 Pagids back on loan darling, but I am simply amazed that they are classified as acceptable braking performance levels on these cars. Perhaps they thought that the target market for the RS6 were women who would obviously be driving around in heels and wouldn't be planting the anchors all about the place?

Well I'm popping my used genuine Audi pads back on again soon as my brake upgrade could take another week until it is done, possibly two/three if I wait for Ian's C6 Carbotech pads. If you don't want too much for the Carbotechs, I'll buy 'um off you, just to give a third opinion and to see if it were your calipers causing the problems. I'll only use them for a week or so though hence why I can't offer a lot, but I'll chuck in some opinions for free. It's your call.

Ian, thanks for the offer and I think that it may well be worth you having a look at these so you can be 100% happy that it is some other factor in my setup like the the calipers etc. One thing I have noticed is that on both calipers, 1 side of the pads have worn noticably more than the other side. I suspect that the disc side with higher wear rate was the outer disc sides but I didn't see this when yanking them so I cannot be certain. If insufficient average pressure was being placed on the insides of the discs by the pistons, the inside pads may not have been getting cleaned properly.
I also noticed but the inside holes on the discs were noticeably more clogged than the outer holes but due to the pesky disc guards they are almost impossible to clean in situ, which could I suppose be accounting for the grinding as they clog up, possibly due to the guards making it far harder to shed the braking material. The more that I think about it, the more I reckon I am on to something and also am thinking that the Disc guards need to die a horrible death.

Sounds like possibly calipers/pads were binding sligthly on inner side giving the uneven wear, if so then this will of no doubt contributed to the noise and ive not seen a properly working setup that wont quieten down and stay quiet for awhile after a good hard thrash it does point towards it being a possbile cause for your issues.
