RS3 Recall

Post by Moschop5 » Tue Aug 21, 2012 7:24 pm

Hi guys,

My car has had the recall done today, went in with a few sqeaks and rattles all which typically disappeard on the way to Stoke Audi :bash:

Anyway whilst I was there I mentioned the recall which they knew about and that they would do it today, well it's not a 5 minute job, its a front bumper off and offside wheel arch liner out job.

Sorry about the quality of the pics, taken with the phone...

Bumper off.

Wheel arch liner out.

The offside front grill has a blanking panel behind it, (the near side has another grill all ready in place for a small radiator), so the offside blanlking panel has to be taken out and replaced with one that has holes drilled into it. This is to allow some additional cooling into that area behind the bumper.

Image

Didn't get a pic of the new grill, but it is all pre-cut, the old blanking panel has it's plastic welds broken and the new grill is then bonded back into place and the bumper and liner then refitted and checked.

Job is a good couple hours worth.

So a big thank you to Stoke Audi for sorting this out for me today :jump_clap:

Does this apply to all RS3s? Should we all be heading to our local dealers?

I believe late cars are okay, mines March/April and needed the mod, but if you check the drivers side lower grill and the black panel behind it is solid then you will need to have it swapped.

So have I understood this properly

To cure the squeaky brakes when cold they are replacing (or modifying?) the drivers side small grill in the bumper from a solid one to one with holes to allow more cooling into the brake

which kinda does not make sense since on my original car (which squeaked like a mofo) only did it at low speeds when the brakes where cold

over on audisport.net they are saying there is a software update as well for the RS3

Audi have no cure for the squeaky brakes.. :audibash:

There is also no software update either, I've no idea where that has come from. :boots:

The only update is the one I've posted.

Right the one on the offside will need to be replaced as it has no holes drilled into it. ie it's solid so no air is getting into that side of the engine bay, wheel duct.

The near with the cooler is okay and nothing needs to be changed.

Damn, so this is going to affect 99% of uk cars as mine is only 2 months old

So this is just about cooling to the engine and brakes

My old RS3 used to run at about 102c in traffic, this one runs at 108c. I thought it was because the engine was still tight

The middle bit is left solid as the twin tone horns are sat behind this bit.

Had pads, rotors and callipers replaced for squeaky brakes on my S4 (recall) TSB along with thermostat, water pump ,rear light seals, and wing mirror seals ,got all the info off AUDIZINE and asked my dealer to do the TSBs,unfortunatley the RS3 being a limited run there wont be a lot of info available on other forums.

I went into Aberdeen Audi a few months ago and was told nothing could be done with the whistling brake problem at low speeds and also posted on this forum for any ideas. I phoned them to book it in as I feel they wouldn't have contacted me......but that's just my own personal dealings with Audi! :audibash:

Mine was booked in for some other things this week, so I asked about a recall and if there was one for the RS3, the service chap checked and said yes there was and did I want it doing so they did whilst the car was in, so I've no idea if Audi will contact you or not.
