DRL bulb replacement....
Re: DRL bulb replacement....
Language is something that is constantly evolving and being tweaked. Hell, most of english as we know it today has been taken/copied/stolen from other languages especially French and Latin. If you wanted to protect original english then you'd be more accurate in looking after a Gaelic or Celtic tounge such as Welsh.
Given the nature of things today the natural order of lanugages is that they will eventually in all probability merge or evolve. For example it's pretty much universal to know what the symbol ":)" means when written. Even the words "mouses" is now in the oxford english dictionary as the plural term for a collection of computer pointer control devices.
Just try to read original Shakespeare it's it's purest form and it's really hard going for many modern day people.

Very good points. I was going to say something very similar, but it's probably wasted energy as the blinkers will be firmly in place!adsgreen wrote:Language is something that is constantly evolving and being tweaked. Blinkers? more like PetrolDave in his cave, with ear defenders on, shouting "Lalalalalalalala. Not listening. You're not saying it Englishly enough for me".guffy wrote:Very good points. Do you not complain when important parts of our heritage such as stately homes are lost? English being gobbled up into American amounts to the same loss of our heritage.TonyHayers wrote:Blinkers? more like PetrolDave in his cave, with ear defenders on, shouting "Lalalalalalalala. English has a long and illustrious history of adopting words from other languages when there is not an equivalent English word that is in common usage - many such words that most of us use on a daily basis came from the languages of the Indian sub-continent.
What English has not done, and in my opinion (and that of those who care about the English language), should not do is to adopt words from another language when it already has words with an identical meaning that both pre-exist the foreign word and which are in common usage.
If that opinion offends you, then tough luck because you're going to keep hearing it.

Motor cars have a bonnet at the front and a boot at the rear, autos have a hood at the front and a trunk at the back.

Sorry, but I think that is a fundamentally incorrect statement. One of the reasons that the English language is soo hard to learn by non native speakers (and NorthernersEnglish has a long and illustrious history of adopting words from other languages when there is not an equivalent English word that is in common usage - many such words that most of us use on a daily basis came from the languages of the Indian sub-continent.

Worth pointing out that the Oxford English Dictionary does (as you'd expect) have an entry for "Trunk" and one is "the boot of a car. "... For "Hood" it has "the bonnet of a motor vehicle"...

I'm not sure opinions of this nature can be judged as 'right' or 'wrong'
they are his opinion, you can agree or not, but judging it is doing the same thing you accuse him of, intolerance

Not sure you're able to comment on this Arthur, you're American and Dave doesn't want Americanisms

DRL bulb replacement....
Ok, I am now nursing blistered and skinned hands after taking these bulbs out...
Simply.....
Passenger side, remove one off torx screw and remove plastic rhs engine cover, push down on the clip holding the bulb cover, open towards the engine and lift out. Hand in and turn anti clockwise, remove bulb and replace. Opposite to replace, (notice the orientation of the locating pegs and slot) take care you don't pull out the sidelight as this is just pushed in.
Driver side, remove snorkel x2 screw on the slam panel and detach air intake assembly. Push aircon pipe towards engine, clip down and push the cover towards the engine and remove. Now the big secret after skinning my hands, take a 22MM Spanner and put it over the end of the bulb holder as if you were using it like a screwdriver and twist!! Easy as pie.... Took me 20mins and very sore hands to have a stroke of genius with the spanner lol!
Have fun!!
