DRL bulb replacement....
Re: DRL bulb replacement....
Under the hood is an expression and comes to mind when talking about been in the engine bay, not american at all and based in the UK.
i dont sell whole lamps, they are hassel to get in and like you said finding some that work error free is hard.
i do interior kits for an RS4, i have a few pictures from a customers i did but i can start another thread if members here want to see it.

Re: DRL bulb replacement....
Excuse me, I've been living in the UK for nearly 60 years and the phrase "under the hood" didn't start to come into common use in the UK until it got imported from the US of A along with pop culture. So please don't try to suggest it's a UK based phrase - that's b*ll*cks.Trups wrote:Under the hood is an expression and comes to mind when talking about been in the engine bay, not american at all and based in the UK.
When you mean "in the engine bay" the British phrase is "under the bonnet", and most certainly NOT "under the hood".
Hood = American term for the cover over the engine bay of an automobile
Bonnet = British term for the cover over the engine bay of a motor vehicle

Re: DRL bulb replacement....
Ok, back to the bulbs, i have just come back from a mate who runs a garage who owns an RS4 and he let me test my idea to the car as long as i replaced his number plate light which i did, but only back to stock as he wants to sell the car.
i got on Well, ERROR FREE, and the kit will be plug and play.
for the test i used:
LED 9w bulbs (these bought an error up plug in on there own)
LED decoder which is plug and play, slight modification needs doing to this but if i offer up a kit i will mod and supply so all you do is fit.
i have ordered some 20w LED bulbs so before i order a load of decoders in i want to try the 20w bulbs as they may work error free.
i am looking at a delivery date of mid AUG for the new 20w bulbs which are new on the market.
For the time been i need a member who is willing to try out the setup i have here in stock, i will post free of charge to you and all you would need to do is install them and run them and check on them everyday?
any volunteers?
Thanks

Re: DRL bulb replacement....
I have no problem with Americans speaking and writing American, but in Britain we should speak and write English. And to have someone arguing that "hood" is English really takes the biscuit.Brooner wrote:I'm with Dave on that one about the Bastardisation of the English language by American culture which leads to massive obesity and slovenly pronunciation so i too am a![]()
That's your opinion, which you are entitled to - but some us have to protect English from turning into American.Guffy wrote:Completely unnecessary rant PetrolDave!
The fact that you cannot use words to express yourself and have to resort to using a smilie is an indication that you have lost the ability to use language - another sign of the creeping Americanisation that has to be halted.TonyHayers wrote:

I have good friends of many races, colours, religions,.. whatever category you care to put people in.
Multiculturalism is about protecting what makes us different and acknowledging those differences, not all becoming an even "mush" of sameness and mediocrity.

Anyway, back to error-free LEDs...
I'm sure I read that the Audi bulb failure detection system works by generating very short (a few ms) pulses of lower than normal voltage (approx 5V) across the bulbs - short enough and low enough voltage to not generate any visible effect, even at night - so surely it should be possible to design a circuit that simulates the off resistance of the bulb when a short duration and/or low voltage is applied and removes that low resistance when a normal voltage is applied for a normal duration? That would give the aesthetic, low power and fast start-up benefits of an LED bulb, but without the power loss of a parallel resistor.
