I hate the look of the aftermarket stuff.

I have a touchscreen JVC unit and it looks out of place imo.

Some people like their headunits to stand out but i prefer the OEM look, was even thinking of going completely back to stock RNS-D.

The RNS-D is not bad at all. I couldn't justify the expense of changing it for so little extra (for what I use it for).

The main reason for me would be to get it looking OEM again. I download all my music straight onto the iphone so it would help having something that connects to it.

Anyway, for the time being the JVC unit is staying so has anyone got any links or info for me to hardwire a USB port into the car?

I use an xcarlink with my RNS-D. Works very nicely with the RNS-D and charges the iPhone; I also have the bluetooth kit for it.

i've been looking at these ipod leads for the rnse,

but i wanted one that does the album artwork on the screen, i can't seem to find one anywhere.

does anyone know if such a product is available? or is it just on aftermarket headunits?

It does exist, but you have to have the sound through the tuner. Alpine KXE something. I've posted about it in the past, I'm sure.

cig lighter/usb port....

Post by Imola_Sid » Mon Jul 02, 2012 1:59 pm

I saw the ashtray and lighter i needed on eBay and emailed the seller. He told me to check if there was a plug behind as i didn't know how to fit it.

So i go to the car and to clip of the plastic cover (i've done this before but couldn't remember if there was a wire).

This time i give it a proper yank lol.. Guess what.. There is a cigarette lighter there but it's broken and ceased in there LOL!!! :audibash:

Soooooo... How do i remove and replace this... Mine has pulled apart from the inside...

I'm assuming i need to remove the climate control part to properly replace it.

Any guides to taking that part out?

Climate control is dead easy to pull out. There are 2 screws holding it in, IIRC, that are located behind the headunit bezel, so you need to pull the stereo out first.

All done :)

For future reference, as Ben said take the headunit out and it's 2 bolts that need taking out to remove the climate control unit.

To remove the ashtray you need to remove the plastic gearstick surround first and then there are a couple of clips on the top and a few on the bottom of the ashtray.

I couldn't get mine out properly so i broke it as i had a replacement lol.

Need to get one of them Belkin USB ports now :)
