cig lighter/usb port....
Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Maybe it won't help, but even if you don't have the 2 lighters in the cabin, you have the 12V lighter socket near the access flap to the CD changer for some emergency phone-charging?

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Couple of pics...

Live was on 75x,
I disconnected the live and earth completely and even the aux cable but as soon as i put a fuse in, it pops.
Any thoughts?

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Clarification needed!!
1 - You say you disconnected it completely and then put a fuse in which pops - so presumably we are talking about a fuse on the car, and there being a fault elsewhere?
2 Picture looks as though you have connected to pin 30, not 75??

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Sorry, yeah the interior lights fuse keeps blowing.
Pic looks like that but it's actually connected to 75x.

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
OK - so as I understand it you are saying that when you completely disconnect the socket you wired in, then the fuse still blows - so it's not a problem with your extra socket. My guess is that somehow or another a bulb has managed to short circuit - or in pulling the wiring about you have got two terminals touching. Have you checked the footwell light to make sure you haven't caught that??
What is the bottom photo supposed to show - appears just to be a jumble of wires??

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
That's just the wires that connect to the charger i wired up.
I'll check all the bulbs again tomorrow.
I'm confident it's nothing to do with the charger as there was one connected already (by the previous owner) and I simply changed it to one compatible with my phone.

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
I thought you said it blew the fuse when the extra socket was completely disconnected?? Surely that's the reason to be sure it isn't the socket??

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Correct.
LOL - sorry about my sh!t explanation!
Just to clarify lol (in the simplest way i can):
1. I have no cigar lighter
2. The previous owner had an in-car charger for a sony erricson phone wired up using the 75x & an earth under the steering wheel.
3. I literally replaced his charger with one compatible with an iphone (soldered it on like he had done).
4. At the same time i wired up an aux cable to my headunit.
5. The interior light fuse blew
6. I replaced the fuse only for it to blow out again.
7. I disconnect the phone charger / aux cable completely to check if that's the cause.
8. As soon as i replace the interior light fuse it blows.
so that's where i'm at now.
I'll check all the bulbs tomorrow to see if that's the cause.
The weather has been awful in Birmingham which makes it hard to do anything to the car. Cheers for your patience/help.

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
You need to know if anything else runs off that fuse aswell as the lights Sid. Best to check all the bulbs first though.

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Dunc, yeah it's running spot on
don't know how i managed without boost lol.
Ben, it's a JVC unit. I used a line in/headphone jack which fits the iphone.
Will check if anything else runs off the same fuse.

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Checked the car today as it didn't rain for a change
still couldn't build up the courage to wash the car as there were clouds waiting for me
I checked all the bulbs one by one and I think i've found the issue. Basically whenever i put in the front left interior bulb the fuse would blow, so i removed the complete unit and i think a wire had come lose and was touching the circuit board or something, taped it up and it's working fine now.
Fingers crossed it sorts the issue.
I decided to disconnect the soldered iphone charger. Don't know why I just don't feel confident with it...
Are there any kits I can get to properly hard-wire a USB charging port into the car (i don't have a cig lighter & don't want one of them usb chargers).
Ideally I want a USB port hidden in the little storage space under the driver steering wheel, so I can just connect the iphone and keep it there.
I already have the aux cable hidden in there too.
Any thoughts?

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Glad it's sorted sid.
Does your head unit support full ipod control? Do you connect your ipod via the head phone socket or do you use an ipod fly lead? If you can use a fly lead then it should charge while plugged in

Re: cig lighter/usb port....
Using the headphone socket at the moment.
I've read the unit can take the iphone but wouldn't charge it.
I'm thinking RNS-E.... But a bit broke atm lol..
