The RS4: A Cool Family Car For Dads!

Post by wolfgang » Mon Jun 11, 2012 11:52 pm

According to this article:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/articles/20 ... s-for-dads
Audi RS4 Avant

With similar appeal to the BMW M3, only with the all-weather security of its Quattro four-wheel-drive system and a family sized boot, the RS4 is Audi at its best. A good example will set you back roughly half what it cost new and used prices have stabilised due to the model’s desirability, meaning it’s a relatively safe place to put your cash. You won’t need such sound reasoning to convince yourself buy one though, as the RS4 is considered the most capable and best resolved fast Audi in years. More importantly for the kids, it’s got huge bucket seats which means they’ll win any ‘my dad’s cooler than yours’ argument in the school playground.

One day after I picked my son up from school one of the older kids came up to him and said "your dad's car is sick".
I don't thick he meant it was misfiring.

How did you get 4 kiddie seats in the back? The Recaro Youngsports, I'll be lucky at three but really two (albeit two is all I need)

Multimac (http://www.multimac.co.uk).
It's a single bench car seat for 4.
The seats are actually wider than a conventional car seat as there' no doubling up on the side bits. You also end up with a large amount of leg room in the back - enough for me to stand in the foot well and pin children into the seats.
Edit: The front drivers bucket seat is actually where I have to to drive and I'm 5'11".
Trivial to fit in a B7 RS4 and can easily be returned to stock (it's just the two seat belt buckles swapped over).
Ok, granted, not cheap but way cheaper than swapping cars. And besides - one of the fastest 6 seaters around I think ;)
TBH - even with three kids it works much better

I gather with that though you lose the split seat functionality?

Yup.
No big deal though - it's not permanently fixed in.
It's like a customised super ISo fix. The mech is under the seat panel. Two clips pressed and it flushes out. Granted, it ain't light but easy enough to shift on your own but easier with a helper.

Hehe, that pic's awesome! we struggle to get the backwards facing silver cross thing in for the newborn as it won't fit in behind me!

Our 21 month old girl loves the RS4 exhaust tho, every now and then hear a little voice behind "Daddy go faster" :)

Yeah I know...
But realistically the only other option would be to replace the rs4 with a 6/7 seater.
Wouldn't make sense to keep the rs4 as I have other toys and it's the main family car.
So I'd lose way more than that swapping the rs4 so I thought overall a bargin.

It's moveable to a new car and lasts up until kids are 12 so plenty of usage potential.

For what the seat offers I don't think the price is too bad for keeping that V8 noise.

Sure beats a Peugeot 504 family estate that my parents had when I was a child.

Exactly. And it's not as if normal car seats are "cheap".
Isofix ones tend to start about 250 - at one point we needed 4 (2 in each car - cba to keep swapping).

The quality is stunning and I would recommend it to anybody with 3 kids or more.

Toying with either supercharging it or new S6 however how much fun to have a 630ps 6 seater ;)

Hah - no (well at least I don't think so). I didn't mind if #4 was a girl - the way I see it three older brothers to take care of her saves some stress my way!
