Expected Wear and Tear on stock Audi R8 V8

Post by JSG » Thu Jun 07, 2012 6:42 am

I want to get an idea on what the wear and tear on an stock R8 V8 or RS5 would be compared to a C6 RS6.
My C6 RS6's wear and tear on rotors, pads and tyres are quite high, due to weight of course.

And while we are here, thoughts on your choice between a RS5 or R8.

Sweet, Thanks Chunky79

Main reason I am thinking of switching is just the day to day driving. Love the RS6 dont get me wrong, its epic, and I love how it scares people on the track, something so big overtaking them so fast , tore past a Lotus Exige S on the straight on the last track day, lotus driver was in shock, eat me up on the next corner as the RS6 is like a super tanker to stop. But on the straight there is not much out there like it. :D

But seriously a 570 bhp v10 is kinda wasted here in NZ, sad to say. No where to open it up in the day to day. Got to drive a RS5 on a Audi drive / track day a few weeks ago, and wow I loved the sound of that V8, even in the low revs, where the RS6 is just to quite. I think I will have more fun in the day to day with a V8 over the v10. And at the end of the day thats whats it all about right. :D

I think the V10 RS 6 is one of the most expensive to run cars Audi has ever produced

Think about it, 20" 102Y tyres which last 15k, fuel consumption in the low teens, 2tonnes of 700PS need some stopping so will go through brakes like bowls of Frosties and the requirement to run a warranty as its not going to be cheap to repair!

R8 on the other hand is comparitively bargainous to run! At 1590kg it is very light, front tyres are only 245profile so less than £200! Long life oil servicing and a super reliable engine up front NA so not turbo problems and manual so not gearbox issues (even the R-Tronic is a automated manual box)¤ the R8 also gets 20+ MPG and suprisingly the V10 gets better MPG than the V8!!
They are also good on brakes due to the mid engine weight distribution, I.e chunky rear brakes mean an even brake wear and less stress on them individually

I ran an R8 for 6 months and it cost be nothing in maintenance, althou I got unlucky by having my front grill and rads hit by road debris TWICE!

Front apron of R8 gets blasted by stones due to height to needs regular resprays or clear wrap to protect

RS 5 is a great car ... i only had one for a wkend thou .... I would like to bet the R8 is no more expensive to run that an RS 5, and prob better as the depreciation will be less on an R8

If you don't need the rear seats than an R8 all day long.
