Cleaning the inside of my wheels

Post by stevoLTFC » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:47 am

Hi All,
So as its bank holiday and I don't have much to do I thought that I would jack up my RS4 and clean the inside of the wheels and get them all sparkly. FIrst time I've done this on my RS4, so open the boot and look for the tools, and all I have is a wrench to undo the nuts, don't have a jack. Is this right? Is that how all RS4's come? Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to use the bank holiday for a cleaning of the wheels now Just can't get to the inside of the wheels to clean them properly without removing them from the car. Dissapointed.
Regards
Steve

Afraid so - you just get the can of gunk. Time to buy a trolley jack!

Yup, that's your lot! - in the plastic case you should have a wrench, locking nut key, clip for pulling the nut caps off and threaded peg. The principle is that the puncture kit works without the wheels being taken off, hence you don't get a jack. Preaumably you get a wrench just for checking the bolts are tight

Guess you'll have to do something else today!...

No need to remove the wheels

A good soak with http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... -cat4.html

And to get rid of any tar spots http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... -cat6.html

Adgitate with http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog ... -cat4.html

The woollies are pretty good too.

And rinse with the pressure washer

Blimey K1mac, I'd just use Iron-X and it does the job and if absolutely necessary Autoglym Custom Wheel cleaner but you have to have some serious crap on your wheels to need to use anything but Iron-X.

As to the OP, time to invest in a bottle or trolley jack.

I would say trolly jack over bottle jack. Just a little bit more stable.

Agreed when at home but bottle jack would do for emergency stop if you invest in a space saver or full size spare.

I was shopping for jacks last week. The smallest bottle jack that Halfords had didn't fit under my non-SS suspension RS4. The smallest trolley jack (in hard carry case) was too big to carry for emergencies so I bought their scissor jack. Seems very well made and was cheap too.

Use a old sock over hand and get scrubbing :)

Fyi the Halfords trolly jack does not fit under car if you are 20mm lower than standard. You can however drive the car onto some yellow pages bringing the jacking height up ;)
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

I use these types of jack.

Quick lift and 2 tonnes - can get under my track car which has a ride height of 85mm.

I like the flat lifting head on this

Mine's from Halfords, and whist the clearance is OK with SS+, it's a bit big & bulky. The only thing I don't like is the shape of the head, which seems designed to mess up your jacking point...

Yeah, thats a traditional jack for locating under thigs like diff housing and stuff.
The flat head is very good 'cause the track car is flat bottomed and no jacking point mount. It's a thick bit of rubber and seems stable enough.
Fecking heavy though... a good 30kg's but lifts a car in two pumps of the arm.
