Off to MRC....NOW Back! (Updated)

Post by edge » Fri May 18, 2012 11:22 am

Well after much talking and emails and taking some more I have finally booked in for some MRC magic next week on the 23rd(my birthday too!)!

I will be getting the ferry over the night before and making the trip in the wee hours of the morning to MRC. From Holyhead it would be the M6 all the way down, bout 3 hours of a drive. Drop her off and if all goes to plan will be back on the road later that day for a return jaunt to the ferry.

Plans are for the following work:
Gut Pre-cats approx
Cold Air Feed
Stage 2 manifold
Stage 2 remap

Currently running a non-res valved milly and K&N filter. Carbon clean has been put off for the moment.

I will be getting a pre and post work dyno, so will be interesting to see how she's currently running.

Cant wait!

Doug, thank you for all the time and help with everyting!!

So ferry docked at 1am on the 23rd and I bedded down in Banbury at just after 4am.

I got to MRC first thing and straight away we put her on the dyno to see what's what. She pulled 366ps/415Nm, after chatting to Doug there was a worry about the fuel that was in her or a need for a carbon clean (which I had originally decided against at this trip). I got caught a little short one day last week and unfortunately had to put some 95 in her. On the way to the ferry I brimmed her with Maxol E5(98+) right next to Dublin port. The only option was to get the manifold off and have a look. Fair play to the lads, it was off in about 35min. It needed a clean, but it wasn't the worse that they have seen. After a quick chat the plan was to scrap the CAF and go ahead with the cleaning.

I was booked on the 9.30pm ferry from Holyhead that night and the goal was to be on the road by 3ish, but this was going to hard to meet with added time needed for the cleaning.

I went off around town for the day and arrived back to MRC at 3pm, car was basically finished and all that was left to do was map her and see how she was running. You cant argue with that for service from MRC! Doug finished the Stage 2 remap and it was pulling 426ps/454Nm. This was then verified on a test drive. The concern again was bad fuel and as my luck would have it smashing summer day in the mid 20°C. The fuel filter was also changed as this was not done since it left the factory!!

I got back on the road just after 4pm and headed for Tesco to get some momentum.

Final work completed was:
Carbon Clean
Gut Pre-cats approx
Stage 2 manifold
Stage 2 Remap

What a difference in the car, in non-sport mode its easy going and delivery is so smooth then you press that S button....it just goes and goes and what a soundtrack. I can say that I just sat back and enjoyed every second of the trip back to the ferry port! Its a pity that it wasn't running on the best petrol and a nice cold day, but them the breaks.

Massive thanks to Doug and all the lads at MRC, there work was excellent and car is running great. Ill post up the map and torque figures shortly.
