Bobfin, finally the chance to type cars instead of the pressure of work...although, work, more please, love it when it's there !!

Still here we go......

Brought the 07 plate Avant, came with tv and the usual extras, although, no bluetooth or iPod connectivity. Chap who i've been using since the year dot on all my cars looked into this for me and confirmed what a lot of the experts on here all talk about, alpine and kufatec (think thats the name), costs were coming back in and around £600 - £800, all to get the car bluetooth and iPod. Some people have the updated head units and the memory card takes more tunes, my iPods on 28,000 tunes, so the cards pointless for me, need the iPod connectivity. Audi wanted silly money for me to have both elements, so that was a no brainer, even more so, i've changed cars so many times i've lost the kit and cost with the car, although, have to say, i'm keeping this car love it.

My runaround (cooper s cabrio) and no, i'm not a hairdresser, i had a parrot kit fitted, instant bluetooth and iPod connectivity, sounded awesome through the standard harmon kardon kit, so i looked at the same for the audi. Had it fitted no problem at all, superb piece of kit, voice activated (if wished) two phones connectivity for dialling, accepting, rejecting calls etc and controls all the iPod and is bluetooth. couple of days later instead of using iPhone sat nav, used the cars, found out i'd lost the nav voice when the parrot was playing, annoying if you driving and listening to nav voice for instructions instead of reading dash etc, pause the iPod and nav voice came back, it's because they use the same amp (bose). Stereo chap looked into it for me and said i could use the aux function on there head unit, but it had to be enabled, here's where my confusion started.....

Took it to Audi and asks them to Vagcom the head unit enabling aux, £144 later they said it could;t be done as the unit does't come with aux. Posted this as a thread and some comments came back from other RS members that it could and gave me instructions. Stereo chap pointed me to one of my local stereo stores, they have Vagcom and would do it for me. They took a look and although they could pretty much get what was required, it kept resetting itself, so, still no luck. Again, posted this and i've been made aware i need to be running newer firmware than that to what my car was running, easy remedy, borrow, beg or steal an newer nav disc. Sods law, people i know are all MMI, where y i needed rns-e. Taken a gamble instead and have brought a 2010-2011 disc of ebay, sold as an original (fingers crossed as i'm told it could bug*er the laser in time if its a copy), waiting or the disc at present, any day now. Soon as i have this, it 'should' i'm told, update my firmware, allowing aux to be switched on via Vagcom. In doing so, the parrot can now be used in addition to the bose, still through the same amp and with no loss to power, voice or sound, problem solved, i'm saying and hoping all this right, otherwise i'll be posting have much of a bafoon i've been !!

Soon as it's up and running with correct cable, Vagcom switch over, i'll post the final cost and contact details, if anyone's interested, these parrot's are cheap (excuse the pun) and work great, as long as they're wired correctly, me and practicality...NOPE!!
All the best and hope this helps someone out there...........

All sounds good, hope it all works out. I usually don't listen to the Nav voice so may not be such a big problem for me, let me know how you get on with the 2011-2012 Nav disc firmware upgrade, by the way how much did you pay for the disc ?
Do you connect the iPhone to the parrot with cable or use Bluetooth to stream the music, if connected by cable where has the connector been located ? Glove box ? One final thing was the additional cables required for parrot to sound through all speakers.

Many thanks,

Bobfin

Mac,

Thanks for the update.

Really would like to get my sounding good again like it did in the S4 using the Bose amps instead of the parrot amps that it's using in the rs.

Can you advise what harness you used and how you connected it.

I will probably have the same issues on the nav as running original nav disk.

Think the copy disks only bugger the laser with continued use, so if it is a copy when it arrives just use it to update the firmware and then pop the old disk back in for the maps, hopefully the new software will still be able to read the maps of the old disk.

Great tip! I have been looking for ages for 4gb non-HC cards. I looked in Maplins and Amazon too but couldn't find any. Just had a look on Amazon and they are there! Ordered now!
Anyone else looking for some should get there before they run out.

Bought the Parrot MK i9200 fitted, fully connected to all speakers, local mobile installer in Glasgow, the guy is a parrot approved installer, great job, great sound and easy to use, would recommend. £280.00 all in.
