thanks Chris that's good to know. Drove around all day today with no warning lights - maybe it just don't like Monday's!

I picked up a cable myself today and gave the car a quick scan with VCDS-Lite. Never done this before and slight disappointed (!!) that all it came back with was;

Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: 01V-927-156.LBL
Controller: 4B0 927 156 FB
Component: AG5 01L 4.2l5VT RdW 1315
Coding: 00001
Shop #: WSC 02195
VCID: 6CAB47B30F85
No fault code found.

Should i be worried? :)

Yes, it's missed out about 90% of the modules it shoudl be scanning. Try checking the fault codes in them one by one. Here are the modules you should be checking:

Scan: 01 02 08 15 16 17 35 37 45 55 56 57 65 76
Daytona RS6 C5 Avant. Viper'd, Billies, Waggers, MTM box brain, C6 stoppers, xcarlink, R8 coolant cap (woohoo)
///M3 E46 | XC90 (V8, natch) | Passat GTE | RR Classic V8 flapper

thanks... That was the output from an Autoscan. It's an unregistered copy of VCDS-Lite. The online manual is a touch confusing - on the one hand it states "The unregistered version of VCDS-Lite will scan a very limited number of control modules and then stop." bit then says "Shareware Limitation(s): None. Whether or not VCDS-Lite is registered has no effect being able to communicate with different control modules. Make sure to connect to all control modules that exist in your car, before registering." :?:

Could be a dodgy cable, or maybe you need to tweak the communication parameters in the settings of VCDS.

I think Autoscan is limited. Sitting in the car right now scanning the individual controllers you listed. Boringly I've only discovered what I already know so far - TPMS is turned off and I've a faulty parking sensor at the rear left.

You should be pleased!

Of course, not every problem show up as a DTC. Were yuo looking for a problem in particular? If not then you can log your MAFs and boost, to give yuo an idea of health.

I'm new to VCDS - maybe having had the car for 4 years now is not the time to start 'playing' around with it? I was only having a look to see if the brake pad warning could be switched off permanently through this route. Although it wasn't appeared once since Monday!

Interestingly VCDS told me I had a faulty parking sensor - I cleared the error code and now it's worked everytime since!

I'm off to read how to log my MAFs! Thanks :)

I personally don't think you can turn off the brake pad sensors, but I'm not 100% sure and can't be bothered to find out. :) Let us know.
