JHM v MRC
JHM v MRC
Hello All,
First off this is my first post, so hello everyone.
I've got a 2004 S4 tip avant and have already done piggies and custom CAT back, next thing is a tune up, I've been wanting to get it into MRC for this ,but having read so many rave reviews about the JHM tune I'm now contemplating sending my ECU to them.
Has anyone on here tried both tunes? It would be good to hear the plus sides to both these tunes and if one seems better than the other.
Also, has anyone got a THOR skid plate, if so are they any good? I'm guessing anything is better than the cheap plastic one that comes as standard.
Thanks in advance

I've got a Thor skid plate and it's a beast. Takes a bit of tweaking to fit but it's taken a few bit hits easily.
I considered the JHM tune but with the aggro of sending the ECU off and the down time for the car, I went with MRC. I decided that the MRC tune would be better for everyday UK use.

Tune wise I will be going for the JHM map. The amount of research that has gone into that tune is phenomenal. It has been proven many times that out of the remaps available in the states that it produces the best results across the RPM range. It also has a few cool features like launch assist if frying your clutch is your cup of tea. The price is also several hundred quid cheaper, even considering packaging it up, sending it halfway across the world, Reprogramming it, and repacking it, sending it back to the UK.
Re: JHM v MRC
MRC do a full health check on your car before they map it so not only does it put your mind at rest it also gets the best results for your car
They took alot of time mapping mine to get it exactly how they wanted it which gave me the owner much confidence. They then talk you through the graphs explaining exactly what they have done and are there to answer any questions you may have

MRC is also tuned to your car, not just the S4 in general

Re: JHM v MRC
I don't have any experience with the MRC tune since I'm in the states. But in regards the the JHM tune, I wouldn't suggest anything else. The guys at JHM have put an insane amount of work into building the absolute best tune for this car. I'm not sure how the MRC cars have done at the drag strip, but the JHM car's have yielded much better performance than any other tune (at least in the US). The down time is the biggest issue, but they are very quick with the turn around and you won't be disappointed with the results.

And not use a map based on the low grade fuel the americans havexyber wrote:MRC is also tuned to your car, not just the S4 in general
Best way is always mapped to the car and the fuel you use daily

Re: JHM v MRC
Actually, the RON values are the same. They just have a different measuring system. I think 93 AKI (USA) = 98 RON (UK).Dave_Hedgehog wrote:And not use a map based on the low grade fuel the americans havexyber wrote:MRC is also tuned to your car, not just the S4 in general

Thanks for the replies, I've now got my Thor plate so that can go on at the next service.
Bud8817, I know everyone says how amazing the JHM tune is at the strip but what about on the road through the bends? What I don't want to do is get a car that is great in a straight line but compromised through the corners.
Guys with the MRC tune, what about for you, did you notice a bump in performance that's worth having or is it so so?

If you fuel it in the UK, if you drive it in the UK (mostly) if you dont take it to the dragstrip evry other weekend MRCJocky wrote:Thanks for the replies, I've now got my Thor plate so that can go on at the next service.

Yes it is worth it IMO. The general consensus is to have a few other bits done at the same time as it is more economical so you will see more bang for your £ than just going for a remap.
I started off with a remap and a Miltek and I certainly noticed the difference now mine is a completely different animal with the other odds and ends done, all by MRC.
