On what year of S4 was this problem cured? Or is it an ongoing problem. Only I'll try to get the newest model to lower my chances of coming across this problem!

I really don't see Audi's point of view here, it isn't a consumable part, like a clutch, it's a faulty, well regonized problem, I'd of thought a decent solicitor, a few names and addresses and job done. Worst case phone watchdog, 30K+ car, shoddy service, crap attitude. £1200-1500 to fix to fix our bad design isn't acceptable. End of story. What are they replacing the orinal article with? The same shoddy bit of kit.....err think not.

I've read loads on the heatshields topic and having decided that I would finally get mine onto a ramp and have look, I got my mechanic to take the heatshield off and guess what? It still rattles!!

It's definitely the RHS and the only way to quieten the noise at idle is by levering the top of the exhaust system gently sideways with a pry-bar.

So, how do I tell if it's turbo or manifold or cat or exhaust?

It seems to come from close to a sleeve around the top of the exhaust - is this a cat?

If it's downpipes/cat does anyone know if the downpipes can be changed without engine out for Milltek items (presumably) to match the system?

Would really appreciate any help as it's still on the ramp having had the APR snub/Samco F hoses etc changed

Rgds

Simon
