Carbon clean - consumables ?
Hi
Could someone tell me which bits will generally need replacing when carbon cleaning a B7 RS4 engine please ?
I'll report back in proper details when complete, but Audi have agreed to undertake the strip down and carbon clean, but have asked for a 'contribution' towards the parts which will be replaced
I was under the impression this was going to be just the in-mani gaskets, right ?
Does anyone know the costs of the in-mani gaskets, or at worst case (incase they decide to remove the heads), the head gaskets too ? Will they have to replace anything else as good practice ?
Once they've done this in a couple of weeks, and I've had a chance to get it back up to MRC's rolling road, I'll report back in full on the effects of the various stages (wynns product inc)
Cheers
Graeme

Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
Gaskets arent much at all but im overseas at the minute but maybe 50 quid or so,its all labour based tbh
Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
Graeme,
If you don't mind me asking, what milage is your car on at present? what has made you / Audi take the decision to have the carbon cleaned?
I ask as i see so many threads on this, but personally would;t have a clue if and when it should be done, was it something Audi fault wise in the car?
Cheers
Mark.

Put in on a rolling road, that will tell you all you need to know.mac911rs4 wrote:Graeme,

Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
well according to my MRC invoice consumables are just two gaskets and one vacuum one way valve (as it's a pain to replace them might as well whilst you are there).
Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
Carbon clean isnt really mileage dependant, its more the type of use and driving style,a town car with low miles is more likely to have enough to start robbing performance, the difference appears mainly in the higher revrange and a fair loss of torque throughout in my case, you will never stop build up but if you have it cleaned and drive it like you stole it whenever conditions are suitable it will be kept at an acceptable level and you will keep full power
Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
Thanks Paul / Lengster,
Re the rolling road side, the car to me appears very fast, appreciate though that you guys know a damn site more then I and what the car should be capable of.
My cars just coming up to 28k, i'm 2nd owner, had it since Jan. I'd probably guess previous owner gave it some (mad if not), then onto me. as you say, drive it like you stole it as i do when possible, but if i took it to a rolling road, would i have enough to approach Audi re loss of performance, as Graeme did (although his circumstances may differ), car is currently under 3 year warranty with them.
Cheers

Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
Mine felt quick to me too, one owner only 16K miles whats not to like?, still only done 28k now, it does fell much quicker now, not sure how much of that is the clean or the 100 cell cats and remap, for £500 it was well worth it just for the peace of mind.
Not sure how much down on power you need to be before you get it cleaned by Audi foc though as mine was under warranty and they weren't really interested.
Mine was 375 - 380bhp from memory, torque was ok though.

Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
yep, like the thought process PaulRS4, suppose as i'm a newbie to the RS, i'll make the trek to have the car health checked on the rolling road, at least then i can learn more about the car,
thanks again Paul and Graeme

Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
I took mine to MRC initally, who were very helpful and gave me all the information I needed
I'll certainly be back up to see them for another rolling road session after the cleaning's been done to see just how much difference it's made

The reason I ask is that I'd like to get audi to agree the consumable cost before they start

Re: Carbon clean - consumables ?
Peanuts. 10quid or so for the valve. Gaskets not far off
