Another trip to the Ring

Post by parahandy » Sat Apr 14, 2012 8:43 am

Not really a car post but near enough with going to the Ring.

We're going to the Nurburgring at the end of May, but we're taking the bike this time by towing it in a box van behind the campervan. :jump_clap: She wants a lap of the Ring on the back of the bike.

Does anyone know of a campsite nearby where we could park the camper for three or four days? I should have checked when I was there two weeks ago but I didn't think of it. :bash:

Cheers

You're right Scotty it is, and normally I'd have ridden on my own, but she would never be able to ride pillion that distance on a sportsbike.

I'm hoping to be there on 27th / 28th May. What are you riding?

Iv seen plenty of tents pitched up in random fields and car park areas. Not sure if you was looking for a dedicated camp site that has toilet facilities etc. You could always ask over on Northloop?

I've got an '07 Blackbird which should be great for the journey and although for from ideal for the 'track', it should be fine powering it's way up the hills

I've done something like 160 laps in a car but this'll be my first on a bike Image

Thanks for the replies.

Sonny - yes would prefer a campsite with toilets etc. I found a couple of campsites on northloop, which I'll contact. One of them is beside the Ring just off the 258 but I'm not sure if they take campervans. I'll contact them anyway and see what's what.

Scotty - I've had two Blackbirds one 97 carbed which I preferred and a FI 2004. Great bikes, which you'll have fun hustling round the Ring.
This will be my first time round with the bike as well, although I've been round a few times with the car
Ride safely.

Guy's I can not stress how much about safety on bikes at the ring.

When I was there a few years ago I was witness to a nasty accident on the ring involving 3 cars and 4 bikes which closed the ring for a good hour or so. That crash cost the people involved circa 30k euros and all vehicles were written off.

Thankfully no one was killed.

Talking to one of the bikers afterwards his last words were " I'm never riding anywhere near close to my or my bikes limit again"

So please be very careful.

After witnessing this I am surprised they still allow bikes and cars on at the same time.

When it comes to the crunch my priority is coming home to the wfe and two kids (2 and 6).

If we get there and it's manic or slippery or something just doesn't feel right then I won't be playing.

There's plenty of nice roads to ride so if we don't get on the 'ring then we'll be dissapointed but it'll still be a lads trip on some great roads.
