I thought some might read it like that. Tied back as in out of the way from the caliper, not back in place.rossi46 wrote: Just to be clear, is that to say the wear sensors from the Mintex were cable tied to the Carbotechs somehow,or that the sensors were tied 'out of the way' and are now not used ?

Re: Can't wait for Ian to finish baking my XP10 front pads!
Right, after doing a load of stuff for madam and getting sick of all the together time, I was unleashed to go and bed the brakes in. Followed the instructions perfectly and did a circuit that I know from cycling around here that involves a lot of dead quiet country roads up in the hills and a lot of bonkers blind bend single track proper middle of nowhere tiny country lanes.
OH MY GOD. These brake pads are the absolutely bloody fantastic! As I said yesterday, they bit well from the second they were fitted but as I was really getting the heat in to them (Shopp, you would have been proud, I used the paddles throughout the 15 minute hard driving bit
), they just kept on stopping me in a totally uniform way. they were biting just as well when totally cooked at the end of the session as they were after the initial batch of 70-0 hard brakes at the beginning.
During the few cooldown miles coming back through Lower Froyle and on to the A31, the pedal was going nice and super spongy but again, pads were just spot on. This means that I do need to get that current brake fluid out and some Super Blue etc in there.
I have to mention my tyres too. These too got better the warmer they got (as hoped and expected). Once up to temp they were simply fantastic througout, I could slam on the brakes coming in to a tight corner, come off, apply lots of power and the tyres just stuck like glue, they weren't unsettled once, not once. Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres (Not Pilot2/3 etc, these are different tyres) may be very expensive but just wow.
If ANY of you are questioning your brakes on your RS6 and don't want to gamble it with the C6 upgrade then based on my early findings, these pads are worth every single penny! Wish I was one of those saddos with a gopro that I would have strapped in to the cabin so I could show you the hammering I have the pads and tyres but heyho
.

Re: Can't wait for Ian to finish baking my XP10 front pads!
When I got to work today, I pulled into a parking bay. I thought smoke was coming from the engine 'oh god' I thought, how flipping embarrassing, people were beginning to look. Turns out the front pads were smoking, and we aren't talking about a little bit of smoke, there was a lot. I need to get the brakes checked over now before I go to Germany. I left the car to idle for 10 mins to get the oil temp just right and didn't put my handbrake on when I left it as didn’t want the pads bonding to the disc (if that’s even possible, it was in my imagination anyway).
Footlong, thanks for a great report. I am getting myself some Carbotechs now, might be a month or two, but I am putting in an order for sure. I made a big mistake not fitting them from the start.

Or just be lazy and get someone else to do it again as I hate doing the brake bleeding myself and never 100% trust myself with it. Jacking the car up and removing/refitting the wheels my way cured the slight wobble I was getting yesterday which is good.

It is only an hours labour, I paid £68 with MRC. It was worth it as I wasn't sure what I was doing.

Without trying to sound like a salesman for Carbotech, the single set price for the 8 pads needed for our calipers comes to £432 inc delivery and VAT. I might drop Ian a line and suggest that he talks to Phil about becoming a site Sponsor like Carbotech are on other forums so that it could be easier for you guys to get discounts/group buys if people were interested.chunky79 wrote:How much were said pads nick? For the record, I am not being paid to use these pads, I handed money over and took an educated gamble based on all the information given to me and the end result is brakes that are truly worthy of this car now it seems. A few days/a week down the line after I have some miles under my belt I will know for certain but I will be very surprised if they suddenly stop being so good.
This now really has me itching to try them on the rear too or get some 4 pots stuck on and a set of these on the rear

Re: Can't wait for Ian to finish baking my XP10 front pads!
Mr Footlong ; You're clearly quite an 'enthusiastic' driver, even on the road. It's good to hear of your initial findings with these pads, but I understand the XP10's are described as "Hard fast road and track, for the hardcore road and trackday user" .... I realise it's early days, but what are your feelings regarding their application for more sedate drivers ? I had in my mind using XP8's at the very most (even these are essentially a track day pad however).
As much as I want the car to stop efficiently, and aside from the cost of the Carbotechs, I can't help but thinking for me the XP could be overkill. I have no intention to go C6 set-up, so decent pads/fluid is my only requirement.
How did you find the dust and brake squeal ? Any issues ?
Cheers

Re: Can't wait for Ian to finish baking my XP10 front pads!
Update. Pads still performing brilliantly but I may have kicked the brake fluid's backside a tad I feel. Had to do some normal a-b driving today with madam in tow so by the end of that trip, sitting in traffic I can't lie, the car was squeal city a bit BUT, I cannot genuinely tell if it is all from the front or from the back pads that I also cooked yesterday. The Mintex front/OE rear setup did also squeal a bit too. You can counter the squeel by late braking in traffic as I tried it to see but you obviously look like a bit of a nugget to people around you.
Again, had madam with me who I had to let out of the car to puke up yesterday morning so I wasn't going for acrobatics today after my bedding in fun.
