What Fuel?
What Fuel?
Out of interest, I would like to know what fule folk use in their RS cars?
Shell V Power or the equivalent OR
Standard 95 RON fuel
I'm sure this has been asked before, but has anyone dabbled in a test with their own vehicles to see if there is actually an advantage with the uber-expensive stuff, mpg-wise?
Cheers guys

What Fuel?
The UK cars are mapped for 98 Ron (on my build list) and they dyno around 350bhp running v power
Mine only got v power with tescos as an emergency

Re: What Fuel?
I thought Shell V Power was 97 Ron? Thats what the pump says?
What Fuel?
V-Power is and always has been 99. It's predecessor Optimax was 98.
Re: What Fuel?
As they dont sell 98 Ron around where I live, I can report that the RS3 runs perfectly well on 95, no problems whatsover

Re: What Fuel?
It runs noticeably better on Super Unleaded (Shell V power) than it does on normal unleaded - throttle response and pickup is much quicker and the car feels much livelier like it has more bhp (which it probably has)

Re: What Fuel?
Super unleaded also has a lower sulphur content which means the pre-cats get contaminated slower so there have to be less pre-cat clean cycles (which change the injection timing and ignbition timing to make the exhaust gases hotter by burning more fuel).scillyisles wrote:It runs noticeably better on Super Unleaded (Shell V power) than it does on normal unleaded - throttle response and pickup is much quicker and the car feels much livelier like it has more bhp (which it probably has)
So super unleaded also gives about 10% better mpg, so if super unleaded costs less than 14p per litre more, it actually works out cheaper per mile than normal unleaded (as well as giving more bhp) = win/win.
