Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tread pattern
Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tread pattern
Got these fitted to my 'summer' rims earlier, was just about to put them on the car when I started to get worried that I was going to fit them wrong!
Long story short, (after some Googling) I found this:
http://audisrs.com/archive/vredestein-u ... 10039.html
which explains that there's nothing to worry about, just a really weird tread pattern!
The tyres are marked INNER on the sidewall. I'm sure loads of you know this already, but just for future reference..
Edit: That link's obviously not gonna work, but anyway, as long as the INNER mark is on the inside (Duh!), all is well.....

Yes. Weird aren't they. I had the same doubts last year, when I fitted these.
They just seemed illogical as they weren't matched pairs (mirror images).
Apparently all deliberate however.

Aye, it was the mirror image thing that was messing up my head!
Anyway, that's them on now. If we get a late burst of snow up here I'll be cheesed off....!

Don't be, they are excllent in snow and have seen me through the last 3 years of whatever snow we have had in the North East.

Yeah, I think everyone knows you love them in the snow...P_G wrote:Don't be, they are excllent in snow and have seen me through the last 3 years of whatever snow we have had in the North East.

I've just taken my winters off (Wintrac Extremes) though, so no need to worry, other than the hassle of swapping them over.
I've just gone two miles for petrol and the wheels haven't fallen off, so things are looking good.

Nice and comfy too.
Cheers.

Re: Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tread pattern
I put 2 onto the back last week, (275s), felt they were really quite slidey, do they take long to scrub in? Or is it because Ive two different makes and sizes between front and back? Still got the Sport Contacts (255s)on the front, as theres plenty of tread left on them.
Have done nearly 300 miles now, but still thinking they should be more grip than there is.
At one point was actually wondering if I did the right thing in getting them and was regretting I didnt stick to what I had! Hope theyre ok!!

I had the exact same panic over the tread pattern when I got mine - they do look a bit weird once fitted but also kinda cool I think.
I've had mine on for about 2k miles now and my impressions are that they are brilliant in the wet but not that great in the dry (at least compared to the SC3s I had before). But for the price I think they are very very hard to beat.

I'd say at least 2000 miles to run-in.
They were, frankly, sh*t for the first 1500.
Quite scary with the lack of apparent grip.
Agreed.... good in the wet. Now "not too bad" (after about 6000 miles), in the dry.
I won't be getting again. But as others have said "not bad for the money".
