Not sure what you mean exactly :D but as I said, it was a quick bodge. However, it is somewhere it will never be seen and has the same functionality as an adaptor I would have taken my time with making up, just for the sake of being anal ;)

Bah, the mod urge couldn't be suppressed. After trying the modded 3LED glovebox light in the bottom of one of the doors tonight I have ordered another 4 6LED 37mm bulbs to do the bottom door lights and 4 3LED 37mm bulbs for the red door lights. After checking the bootlid one to see how pinky the red reflector/light goes when a strong enough LED is shining through it, I think with the 3LED ones and a couple of spacers between them and the lenses, I should get away with a fairly red, but bright light :).

Well that's a few hours of uninteresting bodgery ahead of me ;)

Ok, have made up 1 of each door type for testing tonight. I am expecting the light through the red reflector to be quite pink and despite floating the bulb to raise the height from the lens without spacers that could possibly be seen from outside, still pretty sure they will be a no-go:
P1010344.JPG
Since that photo was taken the floating one is secured with hot glue at either end (can't see it on the reflector side) so will be perfectly robust for door shutting.

For the 6LED whites in the bottom lights, you do have to shave the sides ever so gently to get a perfect wedged in fit. These are set a few mm above the lens just incase these do actually produce any heat. The floating one in the red light is about is at about 6-7mm above the lens but still don't think it will be enough. Tonight will confirm it and then I will only need to buy 1 new red light. Going to do all the bottom white ones, no brainer.

Looks good. I almost wish I was as anal as you so that I could be bothered to do it, too. I would get a lot of satisfaction.

Ok, put the new pair in to the front passenger door so I have 2 comparison shots. Looks like the floating bulb has worked as the result is a fairly brighter light without being a much lighter shade. The pictures don't really reflect the increase in light from the red light but the reflection on the car does a bit. The footwell lights are identical shades, just the camera not capturing them properly.

Normal bulbs in driver door:

Modded white/red lights in passenger door:

Sod it, I already have the bulbs on the way so it's only another 6 to make up........

Right, ALL soldering done! All the lights are back in place. I am now going to replace the standard reverse bulbs that came in the smoked Dectane rears with brighter LED ones as I can't see a damn thing when reversing in the dark currently.

Before I order them (got 20 mins to miss delivery cutoff shopp! ;)) can anyone confirm if the reverse bulbs are linked to Canbus or not? I would try but with the LED ballasts in there is is beyond a pig to try to yank one and I only plan on yanking the bulbs to swap them and I will make up the balun support plates I have been meaning to at the same time.

Thanks.

No canbus. Like I said, I'm pretty sure it's only the headlights, taillights and brake lights. But I wouldn't bet my life on it.

Worst case, you can put a power resistor in series if necessary.

I hope that you've fixed your dummy fog light, too. How could you sleep knowing that there is a missing bulb from one side?

Really? I didn't actually know that. Haven't thought about the foglights really but need to get on that and if it is possible to wangle something in to there for symmetry then why the hell not.....

For those that care, this is how much I love you all/how sad I am. Just come back from trying to find somewhere totally pitch black to take what are final pics of the end results for the led mods (bar the reverse bulbs turning up tomorrow and then the fogs at some point).

Here you go, just have to ignore the various shades that the camera decides to do the lights in at the time...

Good or bad though? I am just glad I did it as no matter how silly it may seem, it is a little way that I have personalized the car to me. Didn't love her all that much tbh at first but modding always makes me grow properly attached to my cars. Shame Madam won't let me mod her but she is worth holding on to regardless ;).
