Glovebox mounted Cd multi changer

Post by Graeme4130 » Mon Mar 12, 2012 10:11 am

Hi all
I've currently got a glovebox mounted IPod doc in my 2007 RS4 avant and want to change it to a 6 CD multi changer which I understand is a simple swap (I much prefer old fashioned CD's)

I asked my local dealer for a cost, and although they've not yet given me the quote, I'm not expecting the option of going through them to be cheap

Does anyone know another (lower cost) source of compatible aftermarket units or a part number for the unit so I can check eBay ?

Unless, of course, anyone on here wants an iPod doc and wants to swap/px with me ?

Cheers

Graeme

Not really very helpful Graeme, but the dealer I bought mine from (Salisbury) swapped it for free before I drove the car away.

Sorry for the mess in the glovebox, but you get the idea
It will come with a 2m Apple male to female lead that I ran from the doc out of the underside of the glovebox, under the edge of the centre console and into the armrest tray so i could still see the screen on my phone

I've found a willing 'swapper' and we're mtg Saturday morning at my local Ferrari dealer to make the swap
I've pulled mine out (the iPod player that is, before any snide remarksfrom the rs246 dirty minded masses ! Haha) and i see its connected by a single multi pin plug
I assume when I swap this over to the 6cd player, it'll recognise the cd player straight away and the screen on the main dash unit will give me disc 1-6 options though the CD function ?
Cheers

Damn seen this to late - woul dhave been up for a swap as i have the 6 CD changer and never use it - would like to put in the Ipod dock - so if your swap falls through let me know :)

One quick question on this though - if i do swap out CD changer and put in Ipod dock do you need to change any settings or will the RNS-E work automatically with the dock ?

Iirc the iPod dock 'pretends' to be the cd changer so the rnse can't tell the difference.
I think there's limitations like only six playlists

Correct on both counts.

The 6 playlists are the first 5 music playlists on your device, plus an all music playlist. The other limitations are no track names, and the track number is limited to 2 digits so after 99 it wraps back to 00.

All swapped and sorted now
Only difficulty was removing the cd player from the other car as it required a tool to remove whereas the iPod just needed jiggling to remove

It was pair of small hooks that fit into the cd player and release it from the holder
We had to go to my local Audi dealer to get them, although I'm sure they're available elsewhere

one just popped up minutes ago for sale...in case someone else is interested in a CD changer. I think at $150 or 80 pounds as the ebay buyer above mentioned, you're getting into the range of selling your RNSe and buying a 2010+ RNSe, which can handle 32GB SD cards x 2...a far better solution than Audi's iPod for our cars.

i.e. RNSe original sells for about 650 dollars or 400 pounds. RNSe2010+ can be had for about 1000 dollars or 600 pounds. The gap is around 350 dollars or 200 pounds...and if you're spending 80 pounds on an (frankly not so awesome) iPod cable, you may be just as well to go all the way and upgrade to 2010+.

Anyway, here's the CD changer in case someone else wants it

You can get them from Halfords and there's usually some on eBay.

But unless you like the sight of your own blood, get the ones with plastic coated handles as the all metal ones can cut into your fingers especially if the changer or radio/RNS-E is tight.
